Bass Cab opinions....

All right here's the deal. In my current band I'm using an Orange AD200b into an Emperor Bass 2x12 @ 4ohms. While I love the tone I find the stage volume to be lacking for my own monitoring. I'm trying to figure out my best option while filling out my own personal tone needs (i love low end, i run a p-bass tuned BEAD with the tone all the way down, and usually the amp has the bass near max, mids at 2pm, highs around noon, master at ten and the gain used for volume). most of the time i run DI to FOH, so i need something that is loud enough on stage and sounds great in the studio so here's what I'm thinking.

1) Sell the Emperor and pick up a Fridge (ampeg 8x10) and call it a day, it's not really the tone I'm looking for, but it would def be enough for stage monitoring. it's also 4 ohms causing no amp compatibility issues.

2) Sell some of the drum equipment i have laying around and order a matching emperor 1x18 @ 4ohms, it's the tone i want but I'm not sure if the output will match the 8x10, resulting in having to crank the gain to levels causing unwanted preamp distortion, and i would have to run the cabs through a series / parallel box to get them to 8ohms as the head only accepts 8 and 4 ohm loads.

3) Sell the emperor and some drum stuff and pick up an ampeg 6x10 and 2x15, same series / parallel box deal, but more stuff to lug around in an allready packed tight van. Should get me some cut with the 10's and oomph with the 2x15, so it could be the tone I'm looking for in the studio.

What say ye all mighty ILF bass brethren? :idk:

Even though I want your 2x12, I voted for selling the drum stuff and picking up an Emperor 1x18. 18s are scary awesome. But now that I'm thinking of it... I felt my 18" more than I heard it....

Feeling it is fine, as long as i can perceive what I'm playing in some way shape or form on stage I'm happy.

Understandable! If you got an 1x18, you could be super modular about it too, have the 18 or 2x12 closer to you, and then the other cab in the backline or on a different part of the stage

We have too many people in the band to have stuff in separate places. I think the other advantage is putting the 2x12 on top of the 1x18 would it closer to ear level as well.

I have a love of 18s
I had an ampeg with an 18 and 2 10s and it was amazing until I shredded the 18 and even than it sounded pretty cool.

What about getting an additional 2x12, then? Same tone, more volume, no screwing with additional gear, and TB won't yell at you for having mismatched speaker sizes.

Cause in actuality it's cheaper by about 200 dollars, and i want more low end :excellent: The cabs will be the same size as well.

As far as TB is concerned....

You should see if you can find an AMPEG SVT1540HE.
It's the same size as a fridge but has a 410 up top and a 115 on the bottom.
At full range it's 400W @ 8ohms. You can also run it Bi Amp either top or bottom at 200W @ 4ohms.

It's really dependent on the speaker and cabinet specs 'n stuff, but generally the 18 wouldn't be as loud as the 212, right? Perceptibly loud, anyway, because the 12s produce frequencies that the 18 probably doesn't. Or not efficiently.
Of course I'm not allowed to say things in absolutes but there's no way that 18 is gonna match an 810 in output unless it is a ridiculous speaker paired with a ridiculous Talkbass 4-pound class D 5-million-watt amp.
If you're gonna go the 18 route I would definitely stack the 212 on top of it rather than side by side or something. Seems like that way you'd feel and hear errthang better.

What about like...don't they make 612 cabinets that have a similar form as 810s?
Wait, don't you have a 315?
