Pharaoh sustain

I got a Pharaoh a few days ago and it sounds really good, but it seems to have an odd effect on sustain in my rig. It sounds kind of like a compressor whose settings I don't like.
The initial attack and 'a moment' afterwards sounds compressed in a way I would expect, but after holding a cord for a second the volume drops off along with the compressed vibe, into a more natural sound. I'm not liking the transition because it seems unnatural ends up sounding kind of 'weak'.
This isn't going on with all settings, but many. I'm playing with a Les Paul into a '65 Fender Showman.
Has anyone else experienced this?
