Played with my buddies Fender Deville today and it sounded amazing...anyone have anything good/bad to say about either of these?
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifie ... -combo-amphttp://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifie ... -combo-ampI tend to play garagey type stuff with a lot of highs and w/o a lot of low end content if that helps...

I've never owned one, but have used it several times. I don't like the amp's OD, but its amazing when using it as a pedal platform. The cleans sound great, and theres tons of headroom. Also, really freaking loud for 60ws. I like the 2x12 as I prefer more low end, but it sounds like the 4x10 would be great for you. You can find them fairly cheap used as well.

Thanks. Yes I would use only the clean channel. I was amazed by the loudness of the thing as I couldn't really turn it past 2.5 and I was playing right next to the drums and bass.
I was reading online that it sounds "dark" when compared to a Super Reverb...I cannot comprehend this as the Deville was so goddamn bright it was beautiful. Now I want to try a Super Reverb but those are a few more $$$
There's one on craigslist for like $530 I was thinking about jumping on

I've seen deville's go for less than that! I mean its an okay price, but they can be found cheaper. Unless you're impatient and want to pull the trigger right now lol. And I agree, the cleans are bright in a pleasant way!

Evil fucking things. My guitarist uses the 4x10 version and it's just way to loud. I wish he had a lower powered amp. I just don't think the Devilles are flexible. At he very least I'd be happier if he had the 2x12 version.

Also, they are one of the least repairable amps Fender makes, I can't remember the deal, but the way it's made, when it fails...and it will fail, it usually takes out the emoter board with it.

I don't have a Deville, but I've used the tweed Blues Deluxe for over a decade. Essentially the same amp as the BD with more speakers. Amp of choice for the Strokes if you're into them.
I loooooooove my Blues Deluxe. It's an older USA model (I think the reissues are made in Mexico). Not sure about country of origin of the Devilles. Anyway, yeah, my 40W takes pedals reeeaallly well... I know I'm way super used to it, but I don't really like using any other amps for anything. It's just butter.
I will say that I agree on the dirty channel tip... even before I was into pedals and TONZE and things, I tried a Deville out in the store, and don't like the OD at all. It's very very muddy, and then the "More Gain" button doesn't help. It's just mud.
Now the overdrive channel on the Blues Deluxe... THAT'S a hotty. But again, tried it in the store on one of the newer models, and the OD channel is shit... same as the Devilles... muddy.
Soooooooooooo if you were using only the clean channel, sure, the Deville is probably pretty great. But for the price and the lack of a useful dirty channel, you might be better off looking for an older model... I don't know what, but yeah, a USA Blues Deluxe is where it's at. Even my hard to please guitarist friend who is into waaaaay more doomy stuff loves the BD.

I used a 4x10 deville in my old band. the od is a mixed bag. I think it's great for garagey stuff. and with a little fuzz you get super awesome controllable feedback.
The trick with the dirt channel on those is to get nicer 12ax7s for your V1 and V2 slot (V2 doesn't matter if you're only going to use cleans as it's bypassed in that mode) and put a 12at7 in the inverter it gives is a a little more fine tuned break-up if that makes sense. less compressed.
People also like to upgrade two of the speakers with either darker or brighter speakers depending on what you're going for.
This EP was recorded with mine CP jaguar bridge pickkup into the deville I used the OD channel with the gain at about 7-9ish that's the primary sound. then ran fuzz for heavy parts or for feedback.

Alright...I either am going to get one of the 410's or save up for a Super Reverb Reissue. Wondering now if the price difference between them is worth the little improvement that it might offer

If you want a 4x10 combo, I'd like into finding an old Ampeg VT-40 as another option.

If you're going to buy a Deville, please don't buy it new. Unless you really feel it's your dream amp, and are OCD about your amp being clean.
They're like, what, $800-900 new? Used they're ~$400, all day long.
Also, I pretty much agree with everything Atricii said. I loved my 2x12.

I may be the only person alive who likes the dirt channel on these - my HRD, one of the first Mexicans off the line, is absolutely mean when dialed in right. It's not a friendly, happy sound, but I have pedals for that if I want it.
It lives on clean 95% of the time as a pedal platform though, which is what I bought it for. Stupid loud, doesn't care what abuse I throw at it, and sounds good.
Pretty much repair issues can be dealt with by any competent tech if something fails, same as other modern amps. it's not old-world construction, but it's not old world priced either.
I just haven't seen a situation where I needed the extra push of the Devilles over the Deluxe, but I also run in stereo with a Jazz Chorus too. Deafness abounds if I wanted it on tap, and there's always an extension cabinet.
The price you're seeing used isn't bad honestly, you might find a cheaper deal on CL at some point but it's still a ways below new and you'll get the majority or all of your money out of it later if you sell.
