Help me pick new speakers for my Twin Reverb!

I just blew another set of speakers on my fender twin reverb combo (135watt ultra-linear transformer). I blew the original ones, and then it was replaced by my old amp tech with eminence Cannabis Rex. Keep in mind, at this point last year I had no knowledge of amps and whatever the old tech said I was like cool whatever. Anyways, both my other guitar player and I took our amps in this year to a new guy, a friend of a family friend, and this old tech had fucked all our gear up apparently (including my guitar players verellen head). The new guy said that putting the cannabis rex was a terrible idea and it was inevitably going to blow because the old guy put two 16ohms to balance to an 8ohm, when he should have put two 8ohms to split to 4ohm. Secondly, he said each speaker should have been at least 75 watts.
So long story short, I need new speakers now. I actually loved the cannabis rex. I play really heavy stuff out of the twin (using distortion and fuzz) and I need something that can retain the same low end clarity without it being muddy or dark. I also need something that won't break up too quick. What should I get? Two speakers that interest me are the Swang Thang and V30s. I fear the former might be too dark. I'm also interested in the eminence Black Powders. Any other suggestions?

You could do one of each and mix flavors maybe. I know that the Swamp thing has a higher wattage rating though so that might throw things off. You'd be pushing the V30's harder than the ST's, I'm not sure if you're into speaker breakup or generating that with fuzz/od

I want my distortion to come mostly out of the fuzz/od heh. The thing I liked about the Rex's was even at full volume, the amp wouldn't break up.

Yeah, I'd definitely suggest the higher wattage Swamp Thangs then. You might just have to set the EQ a little differently? I've never played through them personally, but I know that Emperor has put them in their cabs before

How about JBLs or some kind of current production JBL replacement speakers?

My original speakers were vintage JBL

. I don't know much about them though. Their website seems confusing!

Ya for sure, which is actually what peaked me interest. The open-back thing might make it an issue, which is why I'm also thinking of the black powders.

I went Swamp Thang. trust me, they are not too dark. Mine occasionally "flub out" when I'm tuned down to A, but for more "normal" tunings they're great. I also use tons of distortion effects, the amp doesnt break up, so thats awesome.

I normally tune C, and my new project might be B. Would flubbing out be an issue with an open back combo though?
Also, I love the price on em haha.

Yeah, sorry, I meant vintage JBLs. I don't think JBL manufactures guitar speakers anymore.
I know there are companies that're making speakers with similar specs as replacements for JBL speakers.

I found that dialing the bass back a little bit helps quite a bit with the flubbing. I dont think C would be any trouble.

I'd look into the Eminence Deltas. Ridiculous power handling, a bit like old EVM's but with deeper bass response and smoother highs.

I've still not made my mind, but it seems like anything eminence would be the easiest for me to find and order in Canada. The only turn off for the swamp thangs are the weight

.
