Modifying a vintage Memory Man

Post by Officer Bukowski »

Hey guys. Was wondering if someone (Scruffie?) could help me with modifying my old Memory Man. It's the blue graphic non-Deluxe model.

Anyways I love the chorus and slapback sounds this thing gets and I want to put it on my pedalboard but the attached power cord is super inconvenient (it's only like 3 feet long). I want to modify it so that I can run it off of my onespot power supply.

What I need to know is what voltage this circuit operates at so I know whether I need a charge pump or not, and how the power is hooked up to the PCB.

Here's a gutshot

As you can see someone made a weird modification wired to the bypass switch, but let's ignore that for now I'm gonna make it true bypass and get rid of that anyways.

Thanks in advance!

Also, add a feedback bypass momentary switch!

That's a really cool idea! Especially because the oscillations out of this thing are boss as fuck, but I'm not sure I want to mod it that hard. I kinda just want to make it more practical for gigs.

I need to replace the feedback pot though since the shaft broke off. That will give me a golden opportunity to mod it if I decide to..

Hey btw, is that a volume control that you added there? I could really use a volume control on this thing.

Man, it'd be a pretty easy mod to do, but I'm not having any luck finding a schematic to show how to do it.

You basically wire up the jack after all the power supply stuff. That's assuming it's running at 9V. Since it plugs right into the wall, they may have made it 18 or more, in which case you'd want to add a simple charge pump.

Yeah that's where I'm at. I can't find a schematic for this particular model.

Tommorow I'm going to try testing it with my DMM but I admittedly don't really know how to use my DMM. I got some info on the DAM forum about how to test it though so I'll give it a try.

I'm kindof assuming I'll need a charge pump which is no problem.

thats correct. But as I said before, I didnt do it. I sent it to a guy for calibration and he offered to mod it for free.. :thumb:

Hello,

It looks like from the schem that it wants to have -15 volts (negative fifteen) to run. Here is a link to a similar model schematic.

You could make a charge pump to make it work. Use this set up but take the negative rail instead of the positive.

http://www.geofex.com/circuits/+9_to_33.htm

you will have to go in and do some surgery to put your new power rail in the right spot. That would be the right past the voltage regulator section. Try right at that 10 ohm resistor.

Good luck.
