Just a quick headsup. I've just been asked to pass on a message that the power is out at John Lyons (Basic Audio) place since the storms at the weekend so he can't build anything atm.
Power company is saying his power will be restored either Thurs this week or one week after that.

So, if you're waiting for a pedal, it'll likely take a little longer than promised due to a situation beyond his control. He and his family are fine, but without power he's unable to build.

People are still buying pedals from this guy? I thought all the mess on the facebook group would have wised people up to not so good business practices. Ah well, to each their own. But keep a close eye on that paypal transaction dispute deadline. I certainly wouldn't trust him enough to let this outage be an excuse to go past that deadline.

I've never heard a single bad thing about him or his business practices.
I also doubt he would fake a power outage just to trick people into letting the PayPal
dispute time elapse. He's been a member here and in the "Shark Tank" for a good while
and it seems if he were out to rip people off it would be know by now.

It is because members here have been discussing this privately as apposed to blasting it here. I have been waiting for a custom piece to be done by John that had a promised delivery time of two weeks. What I have asked for is not that complicated.
It has been well over a month and I don't even have proof other than one or two PM's that he had started to work on my piece a couple of days ago. Others have had pieces that one way or another fell through but I will let those members speak for themselves.

I just want what was promised too me at this point and a hard date at least for me would go a long way.

Ouch. I'm sorry to hear all this being said about John Lyons.

I've bought a bunch of pedals from him and have never had a problem. I'll vouch for him as a stand up businessman.

If this all stems from a power outage, it is as they say an "act of God" and beyond his control. I'm pretty sure as soon as his power's back he'll communicate with people and let them know what's going on. In my experience he always returns messages promptly.

Nah. Most of it stems from months ago....check out the FB group. I'm sure a lot of people had great dealings with him but I've now heard of five horror stories.....that's four more than I need to.

Lyons has a major problem, and he's fucked over quite a few people - myself included.

I mean.....when the "outing" kinda happened on facebook....some of the people who got screwed by him didn't really want to come out and name him (they told me through PM) so I don't really want to name them and would prefer to give them the option of coming forward....but yeah, we shouldn't have just left it on the FB page, we should have posted something here, dude's been slacking.

I was one of them. I had a pedal mod take well over 3 months, i had to initiate contact. John got an attitude with me until I got very firm with him. I will never buy or play a pedal of his again.

It was actually 4 months, over 4 months. December-April.

I ordered a custom pedal that Lyons told me would take 1 month to complete. I paid the agreed upon deposit at the beginning of February and heard absolutely nothing for 2 months.

It was agreed that I would get some kind of update, progress photo, email, etc. I got nothing. After my initial email after a month, I was given excuses and a lot of "it's almost done"

I only got a photo of the enclosure in mid April.

After finally sending a stern but polite email, he refunded my deposit the next morning with no explanation. I was dumbfounded. After cooling off for a week I emailed him and asked him "what the fuck"
He said he got a "bad vibe" from my email and decided to pull the plug.

AND the pedal was built WRONG - as in, not as described or agreed upon by both of us. His answer...."well I thought I could put that switch in there but, oh well.... I couldn't"

Uuugggg fuck... I get a headache from thinking about this again.
