NGF... NAD!

New guitar fail, new amp day!

In a spell of spite and firy rage, I lost out on getting a Kramer aluminum... ON THE OTHER HAND.

NEW AMP DAY!!!

Early 70's Sunn Sceptre head. 6550's in the output, around 60 watts, spring reverb, intended for bass but sounds awesome for guitar. I'd been wanting real spring reverb for a while, SO WHY NOT.

All for less than half of what the Kramer was going for :thumb:

I figured it would be a better solution for both bass and guitar than the Peavey I'm running now, although I do enjoy the Peavey's tone. Probably going to have a tech go over it and possibly replace any caps that are on their way out and give it a good look over before I really crank it

Plus it's 8 ohms, and with a speaker swap, I can always run into multiple cabs with this heads as opposed to the Peavey!

Does it smell like death in the compartment/tube area like every Sunn I've ever handled from that era?

I swear they stored mafia corpses or something in them at the factory.

Not sure yet. I don't have it in hand quite yet. I'll report back when it arrives. Hopefully not!

Can hope, I think it's something in the transformers or the wiring because the solid state Sunns of the same era I've had also have it.

Whatever "it" is.

Double check, but Sunns of that era often had switching jacks so one says 8 ohms, one says 4 ohms, and you can actually run the second one 4 ohms mono or stereo...so I have read. Never tried this, mind you. But it is stated about 1000 times over on the Sunn forums for the Sorado (which I own now) and the 200s (which I used to own), so perhaps the Sceptre is similar?

"The Sunn heads have 4,8,and 16 ohm taps on the output. Only two are brought out to the back panel depending on the model. The Sceptre has 4 and 8 brought out with the 16 tied to a lug strip on the inside. When you plug in to the jack marked 4 ohm, it switches both jacks to the 4 ohm tap so that you can use either two 8 ohm cabinets or one 4 ohm cab. I wire my home built amps the same way. I own about 10 tube Sunn amps and one hybrid they called the "Solos"

I'm going to talk to Dunwich and see what he says. I was looking at the schematic of the amp and I believe it might be able to run at 4 ohms. Maybe this will just be an excuse to get a Delta Pro

WeHuntKing gets dibs. I'm not going to truly know if I dig it until my bass cab comes, but I'm going to run it into my 4x12 for now and see how I like it
