ILF Manga Thread

So we have an anime thread. I think we even have a graphic novels that aren't manga thread. So I figured we could use one of these.
Just read Bakuman 11, and Blood Blockade Battlefront 2, yesterday. Also picked up the FLCL Omnibus.
Is Genshiken any good? I saw the vol. 1 omnibus at the store the other day. I like getting collections because they keep me busy for a bit longer.

highly recommend: 20th century boys, monster, pluto
urasawa is unbelievable, such compelling characters and interwoven stories, I never use this word but his work is truly 'epic'
more thoughts soon, I'm pretty selective when it comes to manga but I've read a bunch and have forgotten the titles of many

I've always heard Genshiken is good but I haven't checked it out. I haven't watched any anime in a long time (lost touch with it because the past...........many seasons have only had one or two shows worth watching) but I do have some favorite mangos:
Ciguatera
Believers
Solanin
Welcome to the NHK
Ressentiment
Before Dawn and the End of the World
Boys on the Run is good so far but only 3 volumes are scanlated...
Cromartie High School is good too.
If you like Hajime no Ippo you might like Rokudenashi Blues. I might be biased because I fucking love the 80's pompadour-wearing delinquent high school gangs fighting for control of the district stuff.
Last but not least, Fist of the North Star. The anime is a little better though; the low quality animation, random shots where the perspective is all wrong, detailed backstories of EVERYONE Ken fights, even if they're only on screen for 3 minutes...goddamn, the villains have rifles that shoot knives. Ken punches a dude so hard that his skeleton gets blown out of his body. KEN PUNCHES A TANK TO DEATH. That shit cracks me up.

Those are three of my favourites.

I love the Hajime no Ippo anime. Is the manga still in print?

I think we have tried once or twice a long time ago but it never goes anywhere
I read online more then buy..because most of what I follow isn't imported and translated so I follow the scanlation groups. Which means baka-updates
http://www.mangaupdates.com is like the most helpful and useful site out there, most manga printed is in the data base and you can set up a reading list which get updated by the site to let you know when a new chapter is up
manga I buy and collect: Battle angle Alita, Hellsing, High School of the Dead, Mushishi, K-on!, Ghost in the shell.
Top 10 list [that I will let on to..]
Battle angle Alita
Franken Fran
Black Lagoon
Nana to Kaoru
Elfen Lied
Hellsing
Mare
Goth
Blue Drop
Personant
Yakuza Girl

Are you sure? Just looked on Amazon and they don't seem to have it.
Also, damnit, I should have made Bakuman last. Now I need to wait like another month for the next volume.

Picked up Genshiken Omnibus Vol. 1 today. I have no idea whether it will be good or not, and I only barely know what it is about. I'll report back.

I read scanlations so I have no idea what translated print volume they're on! Bakuman was good. Gets a bit repetitive but its only 176? chapters. It was starting to remind me of Detective Conan, awesome at first but then the same thing over...and over... Bakuman has more human and relationship development though, as opposed to Conan which felt like a series of almost non related events.
I'm reading Urasawa's Billy Bat right now too. Its ok... I have a feeling it will stand much stronger once complete, but there is a feeling of distance from all the characters involved. I don't really care about them and I'm not feeling the same sense of mystery as with his other mangas.
My more fun reads include dorohedoro, i am a hero, parasyte and uzumaki

The Akira manga is really, really good but it will ruin the movie for you forever.
Aoi Hana, Onidere, Mirai Nikki, Gunsmith Cats, Battle Angel, and Azumanga Daioh are some of my favorites.

Ugh, how could I forget about the Akira manga!?!? Agreed, its terrific! In retrospect, the movie makes zero sense. Hard to believe they tried to compress the story into movie length.

Started reading Genshiken. About 60 pages in so far. I like it, but it's a little less mature than I would prefer.
Any recommendations for serious, realistic, manga?

Try Believers. You'll have to read it online or download it, though. It's only a couple of volumes.
