So I want to take an electric toothbrush, put in a momentary switch and possibly a pot to control the speed.

"Why?" you ask. Handheld vocoder. Put an electric toothbrush in your cheek with the bristles facing in and mouth words. Bam! Instant Frampton, or Ned from South Park.

And the idea behind the speed pot would be to change the pitch. I'd put it on a roller or sliding switch.

I'm not a DIYer so I'm not sure if this is just crazy or not.

Greatest idea! An easy vocoder, with speed control rigged up to equal pitch, mic built in to the handset to pick up the sound...
