Devi's at it again (Console II)

I'm just going to copy/paste my reddit comment.

I just don't see the appeal to this. It seems like its a hardware platform for hardware. It also seems like it would be much cheaper to just buy pedals and run them into a couple small passive components to do the same blending tricks. And then you aren't locked into a platform for pedals.
This whole concept strikes me as a practice in needless complication, but maybe it's just not for me.

Oh, OK, gotcha.

Best of luck in this endeavor.

"I contributed to the devi ever Console II and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" Awesome.

yeah wasn't there a whole "i need x amount of pre orders!" thing for that like last year?

i seem to remember about 4 other devi kickstarters that failed to get funding (or if they did they never saw the light of day, dubstep anyone?)

either way colour me 'don't give a fuck'

The Kickstarter for the silver rose/Cheaper Hyperion/Surface-mounted boards was a success, the Dubstep didn't get enough money by the deadline.

The only thing I don't understand is why the amount is so high? How come other pedal builder don't have Kickstarters for their pedals? I just don't get the 20k thing. Seems steep as shit. Is this to actually fund the making of these or is it to sell the pedals?

I've done two before this... the Silver Rose met the goal, and the Dubstep was too niche a market to reach the goal, but we did get some decent support.

Other builders do, and have, successfully I might add.

The target is high because I want to make sure we do this right, which means raising more than enough capital.

$20k isn't steep at all when you are running a business and want to get a project off the ground and out to the masses.

So then it is to fund the actual making of the pedals? I'm not trying to talk bad about the whole thing, btw. It's a cool concept, I just trying to understand the whole kickstarter thing.

Yeah. It's helping us make it worth it to stop what we normally do and spend a lot of time and effort to get this out. :)

I mean, sure, we can raise $20k over the course of the year and do this ourselves... but it'll take a lot longer.

Also, this gets the word out about what we are doing in an exciting way, imho. :)

You should browse around kickstarter... from music, to games, to design projects... a LOT of cool stuff getting off the ground that normally either wouldn't at all, or would take a lot longer to happen. :)

Wait, so this isn't your first rodeo?

There are a ton of cloud-funding sites out there. I like IndieGoGo a lot.

I think it would be cool if you have a 6 or cartridge unit, then it could be an actual, awesome as hell, multi.

Re: the cheaper to just buy pedals argument: It actually makes sense financially as a consumer if you're planning on buying multiple Devi/Console II pedals. New Devi pedals are $100. Console II is $250, comes with 2 cartridges, and each additional cartridge is $50, so if you're planning on buying new and keeping 3 or more Devi pedals, the Console is a better deal.

Am I going to buy one? For me it doesn't make sense right now because the used/trade market is not going to go well unless a lot of people adopt the platform, so I'm not going to commit to the platform until it's already been widely adopted. As someone who goes through pedals with some frequency, I don't want to get stuck with carts that I can't move. I also don't like pre-ordering pedals (oh god the supa chan fiasco) and I want to see what other builders are going to be on board and at what price points.
