NBD (finally) Kramer 450B Aluminum

After about a month and a half of waiting, I finally have my new bass :!!!:
It's a 1978 Kramer 450B fretless aluminum neck. I got it off a different forum.
I just need to get new pickup rings for it, and there was a hole drilled in it sometime before the owner who sold it to me bought it around 1980 (who since then filled it with the tiny skull pictured below).

First impressions:
WOW. The sustain. Holy shit. I can hold a note for like a solid minute now.
Tone knobs for each pickup are really great and responsive.
Both pickups sound so incredibly different in a good way that it sounds like two different instruments when looping.
Lighter than I thought, and well balanced. Zero neck dive.
Not sure of the scale, but it seems a little more compact than my other bass, which isn't a bad thing at all and is actually really comfortable.
I was a bit hesitant to play a fretless, but this is so easy to play. I only seem to hit flat notes when I actually look at the fretboard.
Super sturdy metal nut, and locking tuners.
Might eventually end up getting rid of the tiny skull as I kept mistaking it for a switch.

I'm a happy guy right now.

And I figured while I was at it I guess I should record a demo. It's super shit. Going through a guitar cab at the moment, zero mic'ing for good measure.

Sounds good, skullservant.

You're lucky, I used to play an aluminum necked Kramer bass and it weighed a ton and the neck sank to the floor as soon as I let go of it.

I think it's a 30" scale?

Wow, the one I used to play seemed shorter than that. Maybe it was a different model?

Interesting! I read that the 350 was a bit smaller than the 450. The 250 was also introduced but only came in white and black

Yeah, I just did some checking, you're right. It was a 350, only had one pickup.

I always turn into a giddy school girl when I see aluminum instruments. They're just so damn purdy

I want to play a set where I just hold the same note for 10 minutes and let it sustain out after only hitting it once

I watched this again when I woke up....just awesome. :!!!: If that was mic'd up in a real recording it would sound demonic.

Thank you guys :)

I'm going to do some direct in recordings next time I get a chance to play. Hopefully it conveys the same :)
