There is a therapy called deep brain stimulation that has been used to treat some neurlogical disorders plus depression where electrodes are placed directly into the brain. I read about it on the thinking meat website. check it out.

This is interesting, though it does smack of the sort of old-fashioned miracles-of-technology frenzy that led to stuff like radiation therapy.
