So I finished building this the other day. And it isn't working, there is bypass when not engaged but no signal when engaged, the led lights up though. Here are some pictures of the pedal and the wiring diagram. If the diodes or electrolytic capacitors were wired backwards would that "do it," as in nothing.

If the cap was wired backwards, you'd probably hear some 'fizzing' sounds and eventually it might pop. - But the effect should still work with or without it anyway. From the ggg layout you have the diodes in correctly. If you're subbing transistors make sure you've got CBE all around the right way. That's all I can think of..

The best way is to use and audio probe though. Get an old patch cable - chuck a cap on the input like ~100n and an alligator clip on GND and have a poke around then it's a lot easier to see exactly where things get messed up.

Everything looks to be in the right place.

Double check the transistors. Q2 should be a 2N3906, and the other two 2N5088.

Also, install the mounting hardware. Maybe something's shorting?

I have the pcb on a piece of velcro, which has worked in the past, but I hadn't thought of the pcb shorting out, I'll try the audio probe thang, I have one, I'm just lazy.

test each resistors with multimeter to be sure they are right value, check cap too,

diode, cap, transistor look to be correctly,

but recheck transitor

it looks also like your input jack is on the left and your output jack is on the right (when its flipped facing you) are you aware of that? conventionally the input is on the right and output on the left, is that how your connecting the guitar/amp? maybe this is your problem. ie: flip the input and output cables and see what happens. all symptoms you report fit this issue as well (led works, true bypass works)

I used all 2n5088s or 2n5099s for the transistors, hence the 88 and 89 written on the pcb's, it says that I should use a 2n3906 for Transistor 2, is that it?

oh well 2n3906 is pnp and 2n5089 and 2n5088 both npn.

this would be a definite problem and hopefully your only one.

I replaced the part, but still isn't working, i think I'm just going to take it to a local shop and see if they can help me.

Word, I took it in to my Electronics teacher at school. We figured out that there was a solder bridge on the bottom, too much solder, and it was grounding out one of the transistors. But we fixed it, and it sounds awesome. Typical Octavia type sound when playing oen note at a time, but it gets all ring modish and glitchy when you play three ntoes or more. I'm really glad I finished this build for my friend, truly his patients is the most impressive thing here!
