Stripped BOSS TU-3 pedal + industrial flooring

Hey guys,

Well, taking a break from my muff-covered-in-tweed adventures, I stripped my ugly white Boss TU-3. And yes, I did it the hard (stupid) way. But I was careful (so careful) and am pleased with how it turned out!

I'm going to have some industrial diamond-grip flooring cut and edges buffed to cover the footswitch, keeping with the bare-metal look.

Like? Hate?

I like it as is without putting the diamond flooring on it.

You're the second person to say that to me! :)

Hmm.. I might get the piece of flooring and take some pics with it just resting on / blu-tacked on, see what people think.

That metal plating makes me think of nu metal and crappy modern-day James Hetfield

Don't need no diamond plate.

just on the treadle where the rubber was, right? i think that'd be cool, if the plate isn't so thick that it looks off.

If I did do it, I'd have the piece's edges 'buffed', as in rounded so it sort of aesthetically 'flows' down onto the foot plate. Not sure if I'd have it cover the whole plate, or just where the Boss rubber went. I may have two pieces done and take pics of each..

As to how stripped it, I taped & blu-tacked everything that wasn't white, and over three stages I carefully brushed on industrial strength paint stripper (the stuff that removes paint from cars, it's so nasty you can feel the fumes & tiny droplets burn your skin). Since I couldn't run the thing under a tap like I would an empty enclosure, I used a combination of a flat razor/scraper, a scalpel (for hard to access parts), cotton buds, tissue paper and then a tiny circular sanding attachment on my dremel.

Afterwards I gave the whole thing a going-over with some moderately fine sand paper (it still needs a couple of passes with some finer stuff), and a wipe-down with some window cleaner and more tissue paper.

If you have any soldering skills at all (I don't, but I work with paint strippers & sanders etc as one of my jobs), I would definitely recommend completely removing the guts and the switch from the pedal. It would take about 20 minutes to strip instead of two hours.. You definitely don't want to get any paint stripper or paint dust in the circuit board and working parts! :)
