I'm looking for an alternative to the standard MIM pups I've been using for the last ten years (it was my first instrument), maybe something a little out there. All suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I dig the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound. It's pretty cheap and has a high-ish output. I'm not sure why people sometimes say it sounds mid-scooped...maybe they just suck at using amps.

I use the DiMarzio Model P, I really dig it. Got a crazy high output, at least compared to any other bass I've tried.

+1 I agree it does not sound scooped, if anything it is mid heavy.. but then it is a Pbass pickup...

Another vote for the Quarter Pound P. It's a pretty great upgrade from the OEM.

What do you want to sound like?
‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s, modern or some thing else all together?

Nordstrand, Lollor, Aero all make great pickups.
Their off the rack winds are great, and they will custom wind for you.
I worked with Areo on a set of acoustic wound Jazz pickups, for a different sound to my project jazz, the results were fantastic.

I/4 pounders and DeMarzio model Ps are both high output and aggressive.

I've got the Bill Lawrence P-46 in mine and like them a lot.
