I'm looking to buy my first record player, what should I look for, what do you guys recommend. I'm looking to spend less than $100, if possible.
Thanks.

I'd say look for direct drive... Try Goodwills or Pawn Shops or CL for that price... $100 is not really going to get you a new one... Best Buy carries some if you wanna go look at them...

I've found a bunch at Goodwills and the like but you'll usually end up spending more on a good stylus then the turntable... Do you need USB or are you just going to use it for listening??? Are you going to scratch or sample with it??? Lemme know what your thoughts are cause this is RELEVANT TO MY INTERESTS...

if you want a good, cheap record player for beginners, this is what i got for myself: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002GYTPAE/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
it's been working pretty well for me for the last year.

I just want one for listening, as in, getting up with the get down, and such.

I went to my favorite pawn shop the other day, and they had 8 record players, the cheapest one was $100, so we'll see. First I gotta sell that stuff in the B/S/T forum *COUGH* *COUGH*

If you can get a nice 1200 for under $200 I'd say go for it... Sometimes pawn shops think they got gold cause of ebay but it's all about supply and demand baby... Go in there and demand one for cheapzzz since they have 8 turntables...

I got lucky and inherited my grandfather's Dual, but they seem to be out there for reasonable costs if you can be patient.

Look up old Mark Phillips/Vinyl Anachronist articles -- some have great hints on deals on old hifi stuff and he has some good tips on affordable needles and cartridges, too. He really doesn't like the 1200 much, though, so be warned if those are dear to your heart.

Not only are there 8 of them, But I am friends with one of the guys that works there, and he told me the code they use. On each bar code it says in letters how much they payed for it, as well as the actual price, so the employees can barter correctly, but since I know it, I am one step ahead!
