So I have wanted a devi TBD forever and finally got one. It is fucking insane and my fav "I will never sell this " pedal. Now I am looking at manglers. I have had gas for the synth and bit manglers for years now but just cant afford the $300 price tag. Now, after hearing the TBD I am thinking that they might be worth it, but do I need one now? Is the TBD a mangler sounding pedal without the joystick? Should I have both and rip everyone a new asshole live?

I pulled out my Synth Mangler the other day to see if I could part with it, and it is going nowhere. SO HEAVY. But can also do all kinds of other stuff too, like thin sizzling almost Octavia type stuff for example. Crazytrain, that one.

i hated the joysticks. i feel like its much easier to have two knobs than one joystick, just easier to recall settings. i feel that the joysticks were kind of a marketing ploy....

Harder to get back to settings maybe, but kinda easier to explore. Have certainly daydreamed about having the knobs instead though. That joystick would be rough live!

Joysticks are easier to adjust with your foot. In my experience. Synth Mangler is one of the few pedals I got rid of that I ever miss.

So I guess I'm going to go for it. No one wants to trade me theirs?

I beg to differ. Not everyone needs to recall settings. I think the biggest benefit of joysticks is for noise/synth/MAKINBEATS musicians who are constantly changing fuzz settings on the fly to create new textures as opposed to guitarists who (usually, not always) like to keep their shit set to a specific setting for one song or a whole gig/session.

Totally. The Synth Mangler actually sounds even better with drum machines, synths, etc. I agree that it's a fuzz/noise maker made with different kinds of musicians in mind for a change. I never did it live, but I actually considered using the Synth Mangler in a DJ rig for a minute.

Yep I took my Hair of the Shiva Mangler to the Austin Synth Party and everyone loved it on Analogs... It sounds great on drum machines or my Machine Drum cause the Hair of the Dog can handle Bass so well... There is a regular mangler, Synth I think at Music Makers here that has been intimidating people for well over a year... It's too scary for most git pickers...

The key to the Synth Mangler with guitar is to roll the volume back if it gets too cray.
One thing I loved about it was using the second fuzz as a "boost".
