My new band is sharing our first song and I thought some of you guys might like to hear a what a Dr. Scientist Frazz Dazzler or an Earthquaker Devices Bit Commander sound like on bass in a song about fucking.

First verse and outro are the Bit Commander. Choruses are the Frazz.

Its actully pretty fucking cool, very professional sounding production. Sweet dirty tones obviously, dug yer clean tone too tho.

Pretty cool song. I'm getting a Black Keys / RHCP vibe which is pretty sweet. How were the drums mic'd (please tell me those are real drums and not software)? The bass drum sounds great!

No need to worry about that. And thanks. It was actually all recorded by me in our closet sized practice space and mixed on Logic on my laptop. Production is new to me and I still don't have a lot of faith in my chops. I really appreciate the compliment. We've got a friend whose a solid producer doing a more pro mix of it now for us. ...and yep for this version, when the bass is the producer he's upfront damnit...well after the kick. Who don't love kick?

Thanks MR. It's 100% real drums played live with the bass and guitar. The kick was a happy accident. We always keep whatever that big Shure kickdrum mic is deep in the kick pointed at the beater. It fell to the side before recording and was pointing to the side where the shell and skin meet instead. It came back sounding HUGE. Then it was just a tiny bit of EQ + Compression and that's it. Then it's a sm57 on the snare. A Sennheiser MK4 (i think..whatever their cheapest large diaphragm condenser is) 40" above the snare and another MK4 40" to the right of the snare just past the floor tom. It's the cheapest/easisest setup that I've found that always sounds great.

Thanks Ryan. I always felt bad that I didn't get the Frazz sound I loved on guitar on the Black Devils Brigade album last year (more for me than you...but still) so I never sent it your way. I nudged something before the weekend we recorded and never realized it until after the session (I will never record with my amp in a different room again), but going back it sounded good on Burgundy Bound. This is me playing guitar, same drummer, same singer (also on guitar again). Once again I'm playing with octaves, but this is a tele into an Octron set an octave down into that same Frazz

Thanks for listening...but moreso, thanks for the Frazz. Over the last 3-4 years I have brought in so many fuzzes of all price ranges and rarities and nothing has ever knocked the Frazz off my board. Even switching to bass nothing touched it. And seriously the most common line from my singer when I play with another fuzz is "ya, it's cool, but it's can't fucking touch the Frazz."
