And they should probably think about demoing with something other than a guitar!

LOL :haha: Me too! :haha:

I didn't even have to watch the video (again) to hear that rippin' sliced-up groove that Gunther is layin' down... his playing has certainly been injected with a high-octane adrenalin... :whateva:

This demo almost soured the whole deal for me, even before the pedal was released.

I hear ya, Devi. You should live with mine for a few days, to see if you like. Gotta sync it up to something, though, to appreciate it's full functionality. And stereo, yo.

It's such a cool pedal, but GOD DAMN, lay off the "injecting adrenalin"-"groove instrument"-THIS IS ROD RAMYU BRINGIN' YOU THE BIG HITS OF THE 70'S-narration.... sweet jesus.

Hey, what's wrong with the hits of the '70s.

Yes it made me want to barf.

It reminds me of Sammy Davis JR back in the '70s saying things like “hip cats” and “groovy chicks”. Sadly he believed he was connecting with 'the kids'.

It's funny, I don't remember ever being influenced to buy something because of a commercial. But there are a bunch of products I won't buy and places I won't go because their commercials turned me off.

I've been confused about what this pedal actually does, besides "Injecting Adrenaline" into my guitar, for a long time now.

Could someone elaborate?

The best description I can give you is that it works (or sounds) something like a sample/hold filter. I'm sure it gets far more complex in stereo, but that's what I'd compare it to if I had to... I think it basically "slices" input and "moves" it around... makes kind of a snakey sample/hold sound... That's the best I can do to describe what I think it does, haha.

I've got one of the SL-20 Slicers. It's pretty cool. You can think of it as a tremolo with many (about 50) different patterns. In fact, if you turn the Attack and Duty controls to their longest settings, it'll match many of the tremolos out there (on the straightest slice algorithm). Also, there's a couple of banks of harmonic "slices" that split the signal into upper and lower frequency ranges then applies different patterns to each range. Gives the signal a bit more movement.

In addition, there are different modes for stereo outputs -- like "ping pong", which bounces each pulse between the left and right channels, and "random". That doesn't sound like such a big deal. But if you stick to mono and use a "dummy" plug in the second output (so you're only hearing every other pulse, for instance), you can get whole other sets of patterns that Boss didn't plan for.

But as for the annoying Boss pedal demos: Gods, these are horrible! The Slicer videos are almost as irritating as the stupid promos they put out to promote the RC-series Loopers. The only thing those're good for is to show how having a Looper with no Feedback control is bad idea for many apps.

(Oh, and FWIW the Slicer does have a very simple Looper built into it as well.)

when i worked in music instrument retail, we were required to watch those damn Boss demos... they always bribed us with free Boss products, which always turned out to be $25 tuners. unfortunately, they also paid us $5.50 an hour, so a $25 tuner was a pretty good prize.
