Shoe Gazer vs. Supersonic Fuzz Gun

So I recently got a new job and Im making enough money to finally get the pedals I desire. Here is my issue, I dont not like fuzz very much (I know Im on a site called ilovefuuz, but I dont like fuzz very much) but I need atleast one fuzz pedal on my board. So I am torn between the Devi-Ever Shoe Gazer and the Death by Audio Supersonic Fuzz Gun. Which pedal do you folks prefer? I play lead and my goal sound is noisy and pretty eerie. So which of these pedals makes a very dark, not vintage, fuzz? Ive seen a ton of demos but they only seem to showcase standard and vintage settings. Please help.

I'd recommend getting a Shoe Gazer and getting someone on here to mod it with switches for Torn's Peaker Oscillation, and SM chaos mode. I had a Shoegazer like this and used it strictly for noisy, not at all vintage sounding fuzz in recordings. You could very well go stock, the SM can get very dark with the control rolled back and the Torn's Peaker can add some more texture when you need it.

I'm not familiar with DBA pedals, mainly because they're expensive and word around these parts is that they have poor build quality. :erm:

I used my Shoegazer (mostly Torn's peaker) on this recording, its the noisy guitar in the background of the big muff lead, and then comes up front.

Another pedal you might want to look at is the Rocket by Devi, as it features a lot of darker tones as well as some wicked noise/tremolo modes and some octavia.

I've checked out The Rocket, it seems pretty solid too. I didnt know DBA had a bad build reputation. They are way expensive. I do like the sound in your song btw, Im diggin the Shoe Gazer.

Yeah...The forums you're on? Run by a guy named Tom Dalton. Who is Fuzzhugger. Just one of those things ;)

Yeah dude, scroll down from the gear forum and check out some of the manufacturers. I reckon Dwarfcraft will have some pedals as well that fit your criteria.

Ummm. I know what it is...maybe you haven' t used any really good fuzz yet. Regardless if you don't like fuzz why are your interested in such heavy pedals. Maybe start with a lighter fuzzface variant. The Supersonic fuzz gun is a serious pedal that demands a serious investment...if you don't like fuzz don't waste your cash on that. Just sayin' is all...

But if you are determined to to go dark fuzz then get an Ab-synth. It is reasonably priced and has cool features that I am certain most people, even the ones who aren't fuzz inclined, can have fun with.

I dont mind fuzz just a lot of fuzz pedals dont seem to be dark and drone-like enough. Im using the fuzz effect for three songs and it needs to be just pure vile fuzziness. But yeah Im leaning towards the AB-Synth my friend. Hell neitehr the Shoe Gazer or AB-Synth are crazy expensive so I will probably just buy both, just to be absurd. Thanks for the tip on the Fuzz Gun btw, you make a valid point.

i have and love a supersonic fuzzgun and it is amazing in a lot of ways, but dark sounds are not one of them. this thing shines in brittle glass dagger setups, like ear piercing stuff. great for leads, not sure why you'd want a particularly dark fuzz for lead type stuff anyway :idk:
also i've had dba stuff for years of live gigging and really haven't had any issues with their quality. my 2 cents is that by build quailty, most people here seem to be talking about the overall cleanliness of the build. yes, they do look like a horrible mess inside, but somehow they seem to hold up to a lot of abuse.

Yeah, dark is what I need in my fuzz. It just wouldnt blend well if it was bright sounding...not at all. When I get my Eastwood Bighorn next week I should have a demo of the song up on the website and you can hear how it sounds. You'll get an idea of why it needs to be dark. I know it seems weird but it will sound correct. Im sure DBA makes good pedals, a lot better than anything I could make.lol
