So I've had an offer to get one of these at a really really good price for an amp in aus



The only thing is it's a state away so I can't try before I buy and there are no videos anywhere.
I'm no valve snob, I love solid state bass heads but before I commit, I'm just interested in finding out whether it's terrible or great or why there's no info out there...
Apparently it's a 1968 100W solid state Fender Twin Reverb.
I mean I love like half of the terrible Fender ideas but there's just nothing anywhere good or bad
Any help or general info would be much appreciated

If this means anything, one of the moderators on Harmony Central said that those old SS Fenders are terrible.

i've never heard anything good about them, and i've paid attention to what folks say are good SS amps over the years.

Dubkitty, serious question; what are some good solid state amps? Like the OP, being in Aus means we're often screwed for price or opportunity to even try things out locally.

There's tube snobbery and then there are just horrible solid-state amps. That era of Fenders are the later. By the 80s and 90s, Fender put out some decent non-tube stuff (Princeton Chorus, 185).

In Aus, I would guess stuff from Japanese companies might not be cost prohibitive. Roland Jazz Chorus series, Yamaha G and B series amps would be the obvious picks for good solid-state amps.

i wouldn't buy it unheard. there's a reason those amps weren't produced very long. but you may love it.

looking at the SS stuff on offer there, you could pretty much say it with me. the Yamaha and Roland stuff will be fine if it's in good condition; the H&K, Laney, and Trace Elliot gear may or may not be good, as is true of the Fender and Vox amps; the Peavey and Crate gear might be decent or might be horrible. you know about Behringer and that sort of thing. but for what they're caning a decent SS amp for you might as well dig a bit deeper and get a Laney VC30 unless you need 100-150W.

Tech 21 Trademarks are pretty good. Bought a sixty for about £180.00 in good condition over here in the UK.

They did a 120 which was a twin but I cannot see that on their site.
