One of my half-bandmates just got a 388. He says you could shit into a microphone and the 388 would make it sound glorious... which is amazing hyperbole, but still.

I've recently gone back to TASCAM cassette recorders (424 mkII) and digital multitrackers (BOSS BR-1600). Just can't jive with computer recording... plus my best work was always done on 4-tracks and little BOSS multitrackers.

WORD.

I just cleaned up my old Yamaha MT8X and ordered some cassettes. I'm gonna try recording some of my bands stuff on that, and then mix it down onto a Teac 1/4" reel-to-reel.

I recorded some stuff a few weeks ago on it and was surprised at how pleasant it sounded. And this was after 10+ years of no cleaning or demagnetizing. Plus I was using the wrong, crappy cassettes.

The 388 is the one that all the San Francisco dudes use yeah? (John Dwyer, Kelley Stoltz, et. al.) Great article here : http://pitchfork.com/features/articles/ ... rage-rock/
