http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hO1Xa2LM ... re=related I love this tone, but the princeton reverb isn't loud enough. What amp should I get that would sound like this with double the wattage?

Just get a Twin Reverb and tell people to fuck themselves if they don't like it :animal:

a Deluxe doesn't sound much like a Princeton at all in my experience. and you'll drive your audience into the sea with a Twin before you get any breakup at all from the amp. not that this is necessarily a BAD thing...i'm just saying. a Twin is eight times the wattage of a Princeton. the other thing is that the Princeton is a 6V6 amp...a 6L6 amp like the Twin inherently sounds different. you can swap tubes and rebias, but i don't know what the result would be. actually, i'd be curious to hear a 6V6ed Twin. i'll bet it would rock.

i haven't tried them yet, but you might want to look at the Fender SuperSonic 22 watt combo. the early Mesa/Boogie amps were based on a hotrodded Princeton framework, and If You're Feeling Boutiquey you could look at their reissue series.

Extension cab = more speaker surface area = more air being pushed = louder!

Ya a lot of places I play or around me don't mic. I'll look into some of the early Mesa amps. Any suggestions on models?

build the preamp then run a 2 x KT88 ultralinear power amp. Thats kind like Fender Meets Sunn

Stick with the Princeton and as someone had suggested, add extension cabs. If you do that, you will want to find comparable wattage and voiced speakers as the internal speaker in your combo. Doubling the wattage of an amplifier does not make it much louder (only a few decibels). Tube amp science is weird and does sometimes go against what we would assume to be logical. Great website for better clarification = www.guitaramplifierblueprinting.com. This guy has a lot of great info about tube amps, types, power, wattage, etc. Just do not listen to his mumbo jumbo about groove tubes as groove tubes are a total joke. He has ties with them, so he plugs them as being the guitar god's gift to man at times.

i used to play a silverface Princeton with a 2x12 cabinet and it was delightful, though perhaps not loud enough to pay over an energetic drummer. two Princetons could be a possibility, or one Princeton with a 3x12 vertical cab like Jerry Garcia used to use.
