Fuzz recommendations

I've had little luck in finding a fuzz that I've been able to immediately "bond" with. I've owned a Hoof, SUF Hellephant, FF and Little Big Muff and simply did not fall in love.

I'm in the midst of hopefully obtaining a Tym Fuzz Munchkin but just in case, I was curious as to what would be similar. I love J. Mascis' tone and have been rather obsessed with the fuzz on Yuck's S/T record (specifically "Rubber").

Any suggestions / recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Pound for pound the best readily-available fuzz/distortion/OD there is. Aurally (to me) a perfectly balanced mix of Big Muff and Fuzz Face tones, with the ability to do a lot of extra versatile stuff with the Starve knob like a fuzzy light overdrive or 60s lead tones.

Yeah, Algal BLoom is nice, why not start by going here and buy a few things http://www.fuzzhugger.com/

But prepare to sell the spare guitar and buy a dozen oscillating and squealing gnarly fuzzes that make You convulse. You've arrived in the ILF zone :ilf:

Thanks for the suggestion man! Looks pretty awesome but I'm not quite sure it's exactly what I'm looking for.

A Ramshead Big Muff clone plus a really loud clean boost will get you close to that Fuzz Munchkin sound. BYOC, General Guitar Gadgets, Stomp Under Foot, Basic Audio and Catalinbread all make pretty good rams-era muff reproductions.

Nice, thanks man. I've been wanting / meaning to check out the Stomp Under Foot Ram's Head. The SUF PI seems pretty interesting as well. Matt's work is excellent.

Be careful, don't keep spending cash on muffs if you dont like them, tones u like on record usually dont translate the same to yer own playing, so many more tone changing facts that u have to consider on recordings. Try out some other popular fuzz circuits, if yer next big muff doesnt work out

Well stop getting Muffs...

I've heard a raw unmixed recording my bud did of an Algal Bloom and it sounded like a bass guitar was on the track it was so deep. The pedal is deep but not that deep. As mentioned, recorded sounds aren't the same as live. You'd be best off getting whatever Muff and a EQ pedal and then figuring it out, which isn't a bad idea.

If you need to try a muff, I'd try a muff so that itz not as you described. blunderbuss is even better, if you could find one

Nice! Shit's so fun. There's a setting that I can't remember that gives this really obnoxious filter-y noise (imagine a cicada) over a classy fuzz toan. Makes my ears wet.

That a LB paintjob?
