Gross Overspender Of The Week!

I was pondering this last night as I was jagging off I MEAN slipping off to sleep and thought it would make a good thread.

What have you seen this week that was disgustingly overpriced that some one actually BOUGHT? I'm not talking just overpriced things in general, because they're all over, but something that's waaaaaaaaaaaay jacked-up because of its supposed "vintage" or "Damblesque tonz" or whatever... and then someone actually ponied up for the damn thing. I was mostly pondering this because of the dramatic inflation of the price of vintage or seemingly-vintage effects pedals and guitars over the last few years and the people that are willing to give up the bread for them.

eBay, HCFX, TGP, craigslist, etc... maybe even ILF! :animal:

Post 'em here!

Ha! I've seen some sick money trade hands for some fairly boring pieces of gear. TGP is notorious for this. I have an account over there that I rarely, if ever post under, on the off chance something in the BST will catch my eye.

Seriously wtf. Don't know whether I'm more annoyed that they think people will pay for that, that people actually might, or that someone took apart a vintage guitar for some reason and is selling tiny parts of it for stupid prices.

people mos def will pay big prices for vintage parts.
the reason is: we musicians like to mess guitars up by modding them. it's always been that way. and because we musicians/guitarists are impatient, we fuck things up in the process. in the vintage guitar market 100& original is king. if i had a 56 LP JR with a aftermarket pickup cover and knobs from a telecaster, it's not worth as much as 100% orig. i would prolly make my money back and more by picking up that outrageously priced part. sooooooooo, if i were selling it....i would be wise to buy those original pieces to have the instrument be 100% . then i could make the most money possible. in that light it makes sense. of coarse it depends on the model guitar, part, and it's worth on the market.
also due to us guitarists fucking things up throughout history, there are lots of parts that were removed and now lay dormant in a parts tray. those parts are worth money so there ya go....
it's just the way it is in the vintage market. it's understandable in a collectors sense, but us players don't give a fuck about that stuff, so it seems silly until you go to sell an old piece of gear and notice how much money is left on the table.

being that is a modern thinking fuzzbox site, none of this will matter to most.

I definitely didn't think about people buying parts for instruments they've lost original parts for to sell. Definitely see the sense in that, and since there's a market for it and limited numbers available people can get away with charging crazy prices.

Still insane that people pay those prices for vintage instruments though, I don't get the collector mentality at all. Getting a used instrument for far more than the new price for the same model or BETTER INSTRUMENTS is so weird. Instead of a 50s strat I'd buy a whole load of custom stuff that's far better than any strat ever made, but then that's just me and I'd never spend that much on instruments... :idk:
