The fact that it's backstage at a talk show kind of leads me to think it's more of an image thing. Didn't really take a good look though, so I may be wrong.

Exactly. Reminds me of that picture of some metal band on stage at a concert, and they have a huge wall of marshalls. 'Cept... The photo is taken from backstage and they're all cardboard

Been trying to see the Kills live for years, it never works out. When they finally came thru the Midwest again this winter, I was in LA for NAMM...and of course I had to head back home before they made it to the West Coast.

Frankly, I've been gigging with a '65 Univox Deluxe Reverb clone that I bought for $200. Great cheap amp!
