OD after fuzz.

So I rearranged my board this afternoon in an attempt to make my oscillations more obnoxious.
I know a bunch of you fellas have dirt after fuzz, but it sounded like a big bag of old dix when I tried.
Actually, the CC/DC was fine as a boost, but my Rat literally cut all the fuzzies out and made everything sound thin and tinny. Is there some secret trick? Or do you fuckers not even realize you have it backwards?

I wouldn't put a Rat after a fuzz personally, it really depends on the pedals you're combining. My Tri-Fuzz sounds great after my Fuck but not that great before. On the other hand my Aenima sounds great with the Fuck after but sounds not too spectacular after the Fuck.
I suppose more often than not I put more sparkly/high end pedals before an OD and put Big fat low end fuzzies after OD... unless I'm searching for more obscure and squishy sounds.

Lower gain ODs sound better after fuzz, or any one with a hi-cut.

It really depends on the pedals. Some fuzz like to be boosted (algal bloom, big muff variants, tone reaper), and some sound kinda blah (or outright crappy) with od in front (fuzz faces, ab-synth). I think a lot of it has to do with how compressed of an od it is.

Fuzz always has to be after dirt for me, there's no exception for me. if its the other way around, it just sounds like a worse version of the dirt pedal.

Really? My Behemoth makes everything I run into it sound better.

+1
I find that you can make those ODs change the toanz of spitty glassy stabby fuzzies into huge lumbering crushing ones. I dig.

That's what I've found too, and every fuzz I've ever had agrees. Seriously. A fuzz>rat ends up sounding lower gain than just the Rat. Alas, looks like Sharin Foo's dreamy toanz will always taunt me (this was inspired by a fuzz factory
clone).
And PP, I
know you're doing something wrong if a raped aenima sounds like poo.

Yup. Everything that goes into a Rat comes out sounding like a crappy Rat. Best to go the other direction.

Personally, I prefer fuzz first (especially oscilationg fuzz).
FuzzHugger(fx) AB-Synth 5k > LiquidGain Hydra... The AB-Synth sound bigger when the Hydra is on.

I'm with both of you guys. I love stacking, and I've
never had positive results putting an OD after fuzz..... unless I'm after that sound of putting a big, shitty sounding blanket over my amp (preferably that old sleeping bag that just survived a hot, sticky summer full of camping sex (you think it sounds like a good idea...... it isn't

))

I think the real question here is why you're bothering with OD at all when you have fuzz?
