Question on Malekko ID 600 - Super Helpful!

Hey all,
I have a question about the Malekko ID 600 bright. I have had one for a while, and one day decided to tweak the knobs on the inside. I later find out that they say you should not do this, because the internal trimmers were set up with an oscilloscope. You would think if they were so adamant about not touching it, they would have put a note inside the box instead of simply on the website in a PDF. Anyways, I have tried to talk to them about it and they are horribly rude and/or unhelpful.
I was wondering if someone has an unadulterated ID-600 bright and could take a picture of the trim spots, so I can get a rough idea of where they should be set and see if there is really a difference.
Also, does anyone know why it was so important for the delay to be set-up with an oscilloscope? If my friend has one, is this something I could do with him?
thanks all!

Does it still sound good? Any extra clock noise, squealing, or odd repeat decay? If your answers are yes/no I wouldn't worry too much.
I've fiddled with DMM trim pots before by ear, maybe the result wasn't 'perfect' but it ended up sounding great

Awesome thanks all! hah I was surprised by the cockroach when I first opened the pedal up. I haven't noticed any extra noise, although the oscillations have become a bit more tame. Also the delay seems to get lost in the mix somewhat quickly, and I find myself having the level cranked up all the way.

i was the 2nd owner of that pedal so i have no idea if the previous guy fucked with the TP's but i never touched them. The only one in there that you are "allowed" to touch is the gain trim pot to match your signals volume.
and I MISS THE SHIT OUT OF THAT PEDAL. I wanna hunt down a E600 D one day.

It'll be different for each pedal, that's why they're trim pots and not resistors. There's generally no note on the inside warning because it's assumed they put the trims on the inside for a reason and they shouldn't be played with, especially as most of the consumer public probably wont try and adjust them.
- Turn the bias trimmers untill delay passes and tweak for the least distorted signal.
- Set the delay knob to full and turn the delay trim for the max useable delay without whine in the signal or aliasing.
- Tweak the Balance trimmers to remove any slight clock noise out the signal.
- Adjust the regen trimmer to set self oscillation point.
- Adjust the gain to taste.
That's how i'd go about it in simple terms and without any extra equipment, you'd have to keep going back and forth between the 2 bias and balances with the gain set right to get it set up optimally. If it's still working and doesn't sound bad though leave them alone.

Great thanks for the nice systematic way to do it.
The problem with putting no warning, or no instructions in the package (which they hate to do) is you are selling boutique products. If i was selling a boss DS-1 or something to someone I would assume they would not care about internal trim pots and touchy tone tweaking. However if i am selling a boutique pedal to someone, they are much more likely be a tone tweaker, ergo a warning to no touch if one is needed. On top of that, I have about 13 pedals on my board, many of which have internal trim pots and all of which (with the exception of the malekko) are able to be tweaked if not encouraged by the manufacturer to be tweaked with.

No problems, it'll be a bit finnicy and it'll take you some time and a lot of back and forth but it should be perfectly possible to get it going okay again, if not 'quite' to Malekkos original settings. You may want to set the gain first thinking about it and then go back to it later to tweak it.
If you do wanna adjust the trimmers in this, stick to gain, regen & delay time.
Hmm... we'll have to agree to disagree, as someone that's designed a fair few pedals, unless I specifically made a circuit smaller by using trimpots rather than pots i'd only really stick trims on the inside that are either set or forget or set and leave the hell alone. They're usually in there just for the builders use (and the builder should hopefully set them to wherever's best) although admittedly they can serve functions and can lead to some undesireable results that could be desireable to some. I'd atleast research what I was about to mess with before I did it though and it is generally accepted that messing with any delay based effects inside is bad, atleast by others forums/forumers posts i've seen on the subject.
Guess i'm just not that much of a tweaker

The manual is available online (many boutique builders do this nowadays), you know save the trees and all.
http://malekkoheavyindustry.com/manuals ... l%20v2.pdfIt says about 3 different times in caps and exclamations that users should not touch the trim pots
I dunno about everyone else but I always check manuals and/or consult the builder before I attempt to adjust any trim pots
