Wanting to get a bass and fancied one of these so tried one out. Seems pretty flexible sound wise but I could not justify the £750 (around$1150!)you have to pay new in the UK. I like the bass but it is not worth that. Second hand they are around £550. I had a friend that worked in a music store he said these were around £400 when the first came out new then around £550 and now £750+.

My question is has any part of the spec/reported quality changed since the Japanese Jag bass reissues have been made?
Have the bass bodies always been alder? Not that I mid basswood but it would be nice to know before buying.
I have found a 95 model at around £450 which seems a good deal. Thanks.

I don't think they made them in '95; I think that's a discrepancy with a new type of numbering Fender uses or something. Pretty sure they first came out in the mid-2000s.
That price is nuts, man. I got mine for $550 (before they were discontinued and the price shot up to like $700).
My non-reissue one is alder, so I assume that's how they all are. Or were.

You are talking about the actual "Fender" ones and not the Squier ones, right?

yep. the fender ones. Still love your green one by the way. Amazing!
i think there is a bit of a price increase due to currency and logistics but there is a fair amount of greed in there too.
I liked the bass but it is not worth the uk retail for sure.
As far as the wood I read the sunburst have always been alder but some of the others painted reg finishes were basswood. May of just been the guitars though.
