Ive been searching for the perfect rat and I was wondering if you guys feel this pedal stacks up with the best rats? I'm looking for a rat that can go from mild overdrive to balls out... The problem is I can't find a rat that does the low gain well and doesn't necessarily sound shrill. What do you guys think of this kit?

It's an awesome kit. The most comprehensive kit or DIY Rat project available.

GGG is at $60. Probably not the mojo opamp and I believe a much more basic/original take on the circuit.

I don't know who would pay $92 for a rat kit, you could just buy a rat for $92. madbean has good PCB's at a good price. BYOC and GGG have great documentation but its not something you need if you are on your second project already.

Does it sound like a Real Rat though because I know a lot of boutique Rats don't really sound like a Rat at all.

Yeah, I think it sounds like a "real" Rat. There are so many modes/clipping options that it will do super-stock Rat, boutique "soft" Rat, and some other shit that nobody else is really doing (MosFET clipper Rat).
But you can get a GGG kit for cheaper. It's got less options and the documentation is nowhere near as good. But it's definitely cheaper.

don't really care about the price as long as it's worth it. It definitely sounds like it is... probably should start off with a tremolo or something though as this would be my first build. Either that or get the prebuilt one.

I do think that any distortion or fuzz is easier to build than any tremolo. the tremelo has LFO's and you might need to troubleshoot things that would go un-noticed in a distortion. like what do you do if your tremelo is not sounding quite right? with a distortion you just leave it and go to the next project.
