1. what ampeg amp is he playing? reverberocket 212?
2. that teardrop has a real distinct sound compared to the gretsch he's playing in the other songs... do you think a strat could cop those tones?

Hadn't heard those guys before. Not too bad. Kinda interesting. Thanks, tchen.
Didn't get a good enough look at the amp to be able to tell.
That teardrop does have a distinct sound. More open, airier and thinner sounding than most typical Strat® tones. Might not be impossible to cop, but might not be too easy. A little EQ may help.

hmm... i wonder if i put toasters in my Ric 330 if it'd be closer than a strat. toasters seem to often be described as open and airy.

Well, the pickups are only part of that equation.
That teardrop is either hollow or semi-hollow. That makes a difference too.
I wouldn't go switching out the pickups on a Strat just to get that sound. Keep the pickups in your Strat and just go looking for a cheapie hollow guitar from the Sixties or Seventies. Strats are pretty versatile, those guitars aren't. They tend to really have only one or two sounds in 'em. Good for playing on a song or two. My two cents.

i don't think so. i have rics with toasters and rics with higains and they generally sound the same. the teardrop in the video sounds more like a strat in position 2 with some eq. why not check out a teardrop clone?

Oh, sorry, I read that too quickly and thought you wanted to put toasters in a Strat.
I still think you shouldn't swap pickups out of a guitar to get that sound. Yeah, either get a teardrop copy or some other cheap hollow guitar.

Nah, I wouldnt go to great lengths just to get that sound. I have been leaning towards putting toasters in my Ric for a while anyway. And I have check out Phantom guitars, pretty sweet stuff... even thought about selling my Ric to fund one for a minute, but just seems like those guitars would really be a one tricky pony. Although a good trick. Love that sound.

I done hear tell that those old tear drops have an odd eq setup...can't confirm that though.

That bass tone is... smoooooth. That was a fun song to listen to. Can't help on the gear question though... I was a bit inspired and jammed a bit with my Telecaster on the treble pick up and cranked the mids on my English Muff'n pre-amp and got a similar sound. (Actually i'm think I'll keep my mids higher now that I've tried it.)
