Re-post from gear.

I'm trying to build two 412 vertical speaker cabinets so I can more evenly disperse my guitar sound over my bass sound. I've never built a cab before but I'm using this as a model:

So, any help or tips or links would be awesome. Thanks!

Cab building is a whole bunch of woodworking and tools. It would probably be cheaper to order them custom than buy all the shit necessary to build them.
But if you have a hard on for DIY cabs, best of luck to you!

I had a copy of this book: London Power DIY Speaker Cabinets for Musical Instrument Applications By Kevin O'Connor. I used it to make a cabinet, before I lost it at work  . You can build one out of resonant or non-resonant materials, or a combo of both; I made a 1 x 12 cabinet that had a port for a second 12 inch speaker available, but the perceived loudness increase for a 2 x 12 cab that's not ported is only about 3db greater than a 1x12 cab of the same size that is ported.

I have a fully stocked and operational wood shop at my disposal. After some googling, I've found the necessary resources for building such things.

ALSO: I had a quote from Emperor(who i got the idea from in the first place) and they said about 800 for ONE unloaded cab. That's not including shipping(from chicago).

So, I'm going to go for it and just do it m'self. Most of my extended family is involved in some form of woodworking/construction/carpentry so I'll be in good hands.

Pics when they're done. SEEYA

i got quoted 1200 dollars for a 6x12 which is crazy expensive shipped to australia

for that kinda money half of that i could setup myself including buying all the tools to build my own god damn speaker cab 6x12
but then again i dont have much woodworking background

but i could learn :idk:

I work as a rough framer but in the past year or so I've been getting better with doing more fine woodworking, for example:

a custom russian big muff I built for someone.

And this midi controller I built from parts of a broken wurlitzer that I ripped apart + a cheap midi controller

Did you use birch plywood for your cabs? Also, do you have any progress pics from while you were building them? (mostly interested in how you did the front end)

They're covered in purple canvas with grey speaker grill material black piping on the grill. I might make some more with the left over tolex I have kicking around.
