Hi. I'm new here, but frustrated.

I am considering buying a Earthquaker Devices pedal, as they get great reviews and are made in Akron, where I too was made.

The problem is, they have made several different fuzz and / or overdrive pedals, and there is no clear way that I have found to hear the differences between them, as well as obtain more detailed specs. This holds true for other pedal manufacturers as well.

Given differences in guitars, amps, microphones, etc, I don't want to base a $200 purchase on random dudes and their usually terrible YouTube videos.

I want each pedal demonstrated with the same gear and same veteran player, so that I can choose the right pedal for me.

I also don't want to just know that a pedal has germanium transistors. I want to know what model the transistors are, since we know that, for example, Mullard OC's in Tone Benders sound a lot different from say Texas Instruments transistors, etc.

Am I out of line here, asking for this? I see the effects database sort of trying to do this, but not precisely.

Try emailing Jamie, he is a great dude who can tell you what you need to know.

And as far as demos goes, you may want to check out a Gearmandude demo because he is generally consistent with what he plays and what he has.

Jamie has always been super responsive and helpful when I've had questions.

We could all offer some help too...Just gotta tell us what you're going for. I know plenty of us currently own/have owned may an EQD.

I agree that both Gearmandude and Proguitarshop's demo videos are vastly superior to all others that I have seen.

And maybe I'm asking for too much concerning exactly which brand and model number transistors and capacitors are actually used within each pedal, in a trade secret sorta sense if you know what i mean, but that info's pretty much out there anyhow...

Thanks Astricii, they have many EQD demos on youtube, so that is very helpful. I originally skipped their videos however because they don't have a Tone Reaper demo, and I was searching for that one first. Again, they have a lot, but not all, and I'd like to see all before making a purchase.

And call me crazy, but I for one *do* care what components are in my pedals, as well as the amps that I repair.

I wouldn't get too caught up on the label on the transistor...
Yeah a TI 2g381 might sound different from a mullard oc75...but a TI 2g381 can sound different from a TI2g381 (or a mullard oc75 from a mullard oc75)

Quality control was pretty non-existent back when those "mojo" germ transistors were made and the sonic qualities of a set of the same transistor type can vary greatly.
