It's not smooth, or articulate, but it's biting in a very wonderful way.

It's all relative, I suppose. I personally enjoyed the way the Dano Grilled Cheese sounded with a Blue Box and an envelope filter in front.

Has anyone ever tried the fab delay? I just realized its $20! I think I'm going to have to try it...

I like the way my fab distortion sounds on bass. It gives it just enough bite to be noticeably distorted. I can't really remember how it sounded on guitar though, it's been awhile since I've used it. I pretty much threw it in the closet when the battery in it died a year ago. I should probably dig it up later.

From what I hear it has the same circuit as the Echo, just with adjustable delay time. My Echo sounds decent, for how cheap it was. I wouldn't call it 'bad' sounding, just not a lot of room to mess with it. I still have big dreams of ripping mine open and bending it till it breaks, but I doubt I'll ever get around to it. The extra knob on the Delay would probably help with that problem though.

Wouldn't be surprised, my danelectro Pastrami sounds super thick and damn near fuzzy.

I would guess the plastic FAB Distortion is a Boss DS-1 clone like the Cool Cat Distortion. The Fabtone distortion of the 90s series is in the same family as the Boss Metal Zone and the Digitech Grunge -- same distortion architecture, slightly different eq.

If it works, it works. Some cheapie stuff just overperforms in the right setting.

Made me think this was a necrobump for a while.

the FAB flange has never failed to get me great things in a feedback loop. really just thinking about buying a few more and putting them in different places in my loops.

i had the FAB OD at one point and was less than impressed. Never tried the Distortion.

On the subject of cheapass effects, i have a fender Starcaster chorus that i repainted. It's totally analog and can be found for dirt fucking cheap. I think it's a boss Chorus Ensemble clone, but i'm not entirely sure. it sounds amazing.
