Photocells?

Ok so I've got a few pedals with photocells on them and I decided to buy a few for some up & coming mods I have lined up. One question I have is whats the range of value with these? I mean can I buy a 500k or a 250k or what?
Also can I add a resistor to the photocell to get a wider range?
I ask because I'm modding a Ibanez FL9 and I connected the photocell and it did some change but couldnt get from 0-10 like the trimpot. I believe the pot is a 200k. Any suggestions?

MOst photocells have a huuuuuuge range, but you can add a resister or pot in parallel to narrow that range. IIRC, the photocells @ futurlec.com have the ranges listed. I've always used cells from smallbear though, they seem to work well for my purposes.

Ok ya I dont remember where I got my photocells from. Some electronic store online I know. I dont remember the resistance on them though. I wil have to test that when I get home. Quick question though... If I have a 200k Pot and want to replace it with a photocell shouldnt the photocell have the same or close to the same range as the 200k pot? (as long as the values of the pot and photocell are the same).

You can just put the photocell in parallel with the pot, and the pot will determine the maximum amount of resistance. BUt finding one with a similar range woudl be ideal.

thats what I did last night but the photocell was not coming close to the range that the pot had.
