I would really love to have a totally transparent fuzz.
One that doesn't color the sound.
I'd love to be able to just use the tone control on the bass or guitar to do all the coloring.

one that will add just that slight edge and sizzle or devolve into pure chaos depending on where the texture is set.

Just a thought.

This is exactly the kind of discussion I was looking for.

Hopefully Aen, Alan (designer of the bass fuzz) and a few others will chime in also.

To my ears the Keely does color the sound a bit, not a lot, but enough.

I'd like to try out the Jonny Octave in person also, but the price is a bit much to put out in hopes it will do what I want. Wish he had played with the guitars tone controls as well as the volume.

The thing I really like about your pedals is that each one does color the sound in it's own way. I think some who complain, didn't get what they were expecting.
You kind of get knocked down when you plug in a DN and get the Blitz complete with Stukas in your living room. But it is the perfect pedal to use any time some one asks for 'Free Bird'.

It may be that the inherent circuit design prevents them from being made transparent.
God I see a scrounge for a cheap used fuzz or a kit in the near future.

i had an idea ( I feel weird calling it an idea cause I don't know jack about building pedals) of having a pedal that keeps the guitar clean but adds a fuzzy octave up effect beneath it. I have no clue how possible this is but its some sort of an idea.

I always thought transparent fuzz = overdrive. And usually for me if I want my guitar tone to shine more I just turn down the volume knob.

'Transparent fuzz' makes me think of double muff's single mode...

It doesn't alter the tone of guitar,slight fuzzy drive under yr clean tone.

If memory serves me well...

Yeah, also the Nano muff is similar to that mode as well.... if you're on a budget...or need pedal space.

I'm not even sure quite what the point would be - fuzz is color, you know? We get fuzzes for character, and it tends to be radical.

At the same time, it doesn't mean it's not interacting. I've found that the DN is incredible in that sense, especially boosted - very sensitive to changes in pickups, tone/volume, and how you strike the strings. It's not "transparent" but all the guitar's characteristics are there, just not doing the things you expect...

I second that. Aen's booster/od is 95% transparent. I have a modified version of the one in the video. It adds a little bit of brightness/sparkle as a clean but that's exactly what I needed. It's a great pedal, I use it in conjunction with my modded Blues Driver to push my rhythm tone into overdrive and the way I have it dialed, it adds this AWESOME saggy, slightly fuzzed, character. It has become part of my signature tone. I love it. Totally unique, and just enough fuzzy, gated-ness to put it in that glorious realm between od and fuzz.
