I want one. I'm going to get one someday, I just don't know when. They go for cheapz on ebay all day, erryday. Anybody play one? Are there specific things I should be aware of when looking at these guitars? Do they have a typical scale length, or does it vary model to model?

Real Teiscos go for quite a bit these days..but the good news is the company made so many rebranded lines that you can probably find something on ebay if you hunt around a bit and do some research. If you are feeling adventurous try finding something being sold for part etc and rebuild.

As far as I know most scale lengths etc are withon normal range but you probably wanna budget some to get the thing set up right and the wiring checked......most of them are in shocking condition...

I've played one at Chicago Music Exchange. They're..interesting guitars, most of them seem kinda of shabby but if you find one in good condition, it looks like they have massive potential, though the one I played on had some shitty tones

I would worry most about the neck. The electronics might be really sketchy but that's more easily replaced.

My friend's shop has a couple, and even though they look ridiculous on me (since they are both short scale guitars, and I am 6'3") they are a breeze to play, though the pickups are kind of weak. I wish more companies did things with those selector flippers like you'd find on an organ for selecting pickups like they had on some of their guitars.

Yeah I agree with that

they vary greatly. when they are "on"....it's a pleasure.
the pickups are a bit weak but that is part of the tonal appeal. very unique tones.
buying one off ebay can be hard....so many are a "miss"...def a guitar you would want to play before you buy if you're not experienced with them or how to make them better.
and while it's easy to fix the electronics on a guitar, if you're need a stock replacement pickup for a teisco, that can get expensive.

I see. Thanks for the input everyone. I guess I'll just be on the look out for a pawn shop score(like that happens), so I can play it first.

I have one. I like it and as stated before the pups are a bit weak. The prices vary wildly I paid $160 for mine but I saw on ebay the same model sold for close to $500. I wouldn't pay that.

that's a great looking guitar. and seems to have enough info to know it's a worthwhile purchase.

My girlfriend's dad has one, it's a cool guitar and plays pretty well, but I've only ever played it through a crappy little practice amp and it really needs new strings so it was hard to really judge it.

I have an unbranded hollowbody EP-8 kind of thing up on the wall in my living room as a decoration. The neck is so fat and the action so high I can't play it. It had pickups but no other electronics so I got a blend pot and made a control plate out of aluminum. Very pretty on the wall.
