Your top ten albums of 2011?

I haven't seen this thread kicking around yet. DROP YO TEN, BITCH.

This was much harder than I expected it to be. Apparently, most of the albums I found this year that I loved were from the 80s or 90s.

10. Yuck - Yuck
These guys were a great throwback to the 90s. Not much memorable stuff, but an album that I go back to

9. Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
Not what I was expecting from these guys after their first album. It was a bit more psychedelic than I expected it to be. Great album, though.

8. Manchester Orchestra - Simple Math
A bit underwhelming, but a solid album. It's hard to follow up Mean Everything to Nothing, though.

7. Death Cab for Cutie- Codes and Keys
I just couldn't get too into it. It's an awesome album, some really fantastic songs, and I love Ben Gibbard's voice, but I didn't fall in love with it.

6. Bright Eyes - The Peoples Key
Honestly, it was just underwhelming. Why the fuck is Conor Oberst singing about redemption? It just didn't feel right, which is why it's only number 6. I got into a lot of their older albums this year, instead of this one.

5. William Fitzsimmons - The Gold in the Shadow
Beautiful folky album. Some of my favorite songs of the year are on here. The Tide Pulls From The Moon and The Winter of her Leaving are stored away in a little section of my heart that not many songs make it to.

4. Powder! Go Away - Laika Still Want Go Home
FUCK. This album was on my headset 24/7 for the first few weeks after I found it. So good, from start to finish. Another post rock masterpiece.

3. Maybeshewill - I Was Here for a Moment, and Then I Was Gone
Post rock sex. Such a fucking amazing album.

2. Das Racist - Relax
This album is just fun. It's goofy and in your face the whole time. I love it.

1. Bon Iver- Bon Iver
The single most beautiful album I've heard all year. Masterfully written songs.

:picard: Almost every album that I've been listening to this year is old.

And there was a best albums of 2011 thread, but it wasn't a top ten. Mods, delete this if it's a dupe thread. I don't know how critical of that type of stuff you guys can get.

That Deafheaven album is awesome. M83 has never been my taste, but I keep hearing things about the last one, so I'll have to check it out. I haven't heard the rest of these, though.

10)Black Keys-El Camino. gotta throw them in here. solid release, but not my favorite from them.
9)Red Fang-Murder the Mountains. they rock. end of story.
8)The Devil Wears Prada- Dead Throne. don't give a fuck what people say, they bring it harder every time they make a recording. Zombie and this release were great.
7)Heartsounds-Drifter. one of my favorite melodic hardcore bands out there. great sophomore release, can't wait to see em live
6)Explosions in the Sky- Take Care, Take Care, Take Care. A little underwhelming, but i love EITS and they always give me chills.
5)Thrice-Major/Minor. R.I.P to one of my favorite bands.
4)Jessica Lea Mayfield-Tell Me. been a fan for a while, and i was looking forward to this one for a while
3)This Will Destroy You- Much heavier than I expected it to be. these guys are awesome.
2)Bon Iver- Bon Iver. Real close to being first, but this beauty gets slightly edged by Dallas
1) City and Colour- Little Hell. Dallas is my musical idol and he didn't disappoint at all. yeah he left Alexis, but at least city and colour is his main project now.

I'm more interested in what you've found this year from the 80s & 90s.

When I said that, I had a small list, but I don't remember what they were now.
Ones that stand out are My Bloody Valentine, Gnarles Barkley, Animal Collective (loved them for years, but finally got into Strawberry Jam, Feels, and Sung Tongs), Bright Eyes early albums, Jefferson Airplane, Flower Travelin' Band, The Millenium (70s, maybe 60s). I'm mostly just picking through my last.fm trying to see what I've been listening to a lot.

Nice little list. Thanks. MBV and FTB are definitely standouts.

I love FTB. I didn't realize they had a big following until after I started talking about them, either.

A big following for the kinds of people who seem to wind up on ILF, maybe.

Anyway, this year I was really digging:

Yob's Atma
Radiohead's King Of Limbs
Wugazi's 13 Chambers
Big Business's Quadruple Single
Bardo Pond's Self-Titled
Bong's Beyond Ancient Space
Earth's Angels and Demons, yadda yadda Vol. 1
Corrupted's New Record (With the german title)
Indian's Guiltless
