passive octave-up effect?

yo, so i had an idea that would take a lot of time and research to flesh out.. while stoned, so i made a thread so i don't forget
My bass has a varitone circuit similar to the one found here http://www.blueshawk.info/varitone.htm,
or actually it's probably closer to the one here http://torresengineering.stores.yahoo.net/varitonekit.html..
Basically it's a chicken-head notched tone knob that cuts more high frequencies with each successive position.
I also have one volume knob for the neck pick-up and one for the bridge. This gives a pretty good variety of tonez.
But I was thinking it would be super cool if instead I could turn both volume knobs into stacked double-knobs,
like i've seen on some guitars where the bottom part controls tone and the top part volume, or vise-versa..
That way I could convert the varitone selector knob over to become a more extreme tone control, maybe with a couple on-board effects!
The selector knob has six positions. I think in the setup i'm dreaming up, instead of going: passive>darker>midsy>darker>dubby>bassy..
i would like for it to maybe go something like: passive>super rumbly bass>thick mids>tin-squealy treble>mild-ish overdrive>octave up!
the eq ones would be similar to the current setup, only tuned to more extreme peaks.. The overdrive sound would be something different but not too terribly difficult to implement. As for the onboard octave up effect.. well that might be too hard. Oh, I should mention that
my bass is PASSIVE and I definitely would want to keep it that way. But the overdrive still shouldn't be a problem, there is a precedent for equipping guitars with passive overdrives (http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Components:_Black_Ice_overdrive/Black_Ice_Overdrive.html). As for the octave up effect, google found only one result, called the OctaBass by Cave Passive Pedals.
Here's a video demo of that pedal, passive circuit, wonder if i could get a schematic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_7t_ZQNIMg
Sounds okay but I'd like something with a little more "oomph" if i'm gonna take the time to mod it into my signal path.
Anyone with any experience with onboard effects or thoughts on the matter, feel free to jump in.
I'm honestly pretty out of my depth here but, hey, like i said it's a dream of mine. Thanks for reading
