I just got an email from my bandmate - he's home in Ohio for the holidays, and was wondering if there are any good guitar / fx shops in the Cleveland area. I couldn't find any through ILF dealer listings, so I figured I'd ask. Any suggestions?

You should PM Mark from BAT. He's not too too far away from Cleveland and may know of a shop around there.

check out Heights Guitars.
its not quite what they used to be, but Sam, the chick who usually runs the front desk is a total pedal geek, and they usually have some neat vintage/used stuff behind the glass.

There's a guitar shop in Parma, 5 minutes outside of Cleveland that is rad. Name escapes me, though (maybe called timeless guitars??) Heights is cool, a lot of history. There are two shit guitar centers, a few rad record stores ( mostly in Lakewood, Ohio...15 minutes from either Parma or heights guitar) and a helluva lotta good food.
I lived there with my dude mauerkraut for years....PM him. He's still there.

Depending where he is at, I know there is a shop in Portsmouth. It doesn't have much as far as effects, but it always has some kick ass vintage stuff. Last time i was there had some 60's and 70's SG's and a 60's Jag all in really solid condition too, plus some Fender Super verbs and bassmen

If he's willing to make the 3.5-4 hour drive, do it!

Yes, there is Timeless for vintage needs, and you don't have to be shy. I saw adrianlee pick up and play a 59 Strat (asking $6k) and jam on it and he was completely cool with it. If it wasn't a refin we wouldn't have been so naive. They have tons of Teisco guitars too.
Heights is just a general awesome store. Vintage to new.
In Lakewood, where I live, there are a lot of entry level shops that I've neglected checking a lot of them out, but that will change soon.
And yeah, fuck our Guitar Centers, don't bother. Unless you're Yao Ming you're gonna wait about 20 minutes to play any guitar about $300.

Ya I am going to be heading there again next week when I visit my grandparents across the river in Kentucky. I always mak ethe hour drive to go see what he still has. It's been about a year and a half since my last visit. The shop had a sick designer series Explorer I was totally digging but the price was pretty high.

also one of these which I am hoping he may still have because I may just do something about it!
