BYOC confidence boost and ESV fuzz

I put both of these projects together last night after work, and now I'm sitting here on my day off wishing I had a project to work on.

I know that the BYOC kits aren't really DIY, but I learned how to read the resister values and put them in place without using the cheat in the parts list. I had also never wired up a 3PDT switch and power supply, so I learned alot.

The germanium transistors sound great, but I wish I had a good pair of PNP silicon to experiment with... any suggestions?

Can't take any pics to show off until my replacement batteries come in fro my camera. My Casio uses a lithium ion battery and mine is dead.

Uh, so this is embarrassing. I thought that because the power supply to the BYOC fuzz face is negative ground that the transistors were PNP, but they aren't. So now I have two sets of PNP germaniums that I'll have to come up with a use for. :idk:

How are the BYOC kits compared to the GGG kits?

I'm not sure, but I'm thinking about getting the GGG big muff kit, as it comes with all the components to voice it in like 4 or 5 dif ways. GGG is alot cheaper, to be sure, so I am really considering trying it out soon-ish.

My experience with BYOC was great BTW, but price is def a factor. I wouldn't have even ordered the ESV had it not been for the 33% off promotion they ran in Aug and the Confidence Boost for 1st time customers.

oh I just salvaged a 2N2102 from an old sound card and put it in Q2, giving the pedal a bit raspier voicing, much more to my liking!!

Very cool.

also check the Tone Machine kit.
Super cool fuzz with an octave up switch.

What are the 2 PNP ge transistors you have?

careful you'll become addicted to building things.

AC128 and 2N1309

The kit came with a set of AC127 with the box-y radiator, and I thought that the AC128 were the same but newer with the tophat.

I got them from Jack Orman's website.

Yeah, and they have the BMP kit at 10% off this month, which should eat up about the price of shipping. ;D
