3rd Fuzz...Mosrite Fuzz clone? Fuzz War?

Post by mal paso »

Hey everybody,

Need some help. Currently using a Big Muff and a Fuzz Factory and I want to ask Santa for a new fuzz for christmas. As far as music I play, it's pretty much all over the place. Noise, shoegazer, doom, surf, spaghetti western, krautrock, psychedelic folk, etc. etc. The two I'm considering at the moment are the DBA Fuzz War and the Ashbass Fuzzbrite(Mosrite clone). My major concern is sonic overlap. Is the Fuzz War too much like the Big Muff? Is the Fuzzbrite too similar to the sharp, trebly tones of the Fuzz Factory?

What would my best bet be? I'm kinda leaning toward the Fuzzbrite, but if the FuzzFactory can get me in that territory, maybe I should consider something else?

All suggestions greatly appreciated!

Oh, and i'm trying to keep it under $150(also thinking about the Blue Box)

Thanks!

The INFANEM Second Voice is $145 new and it's like the Blue Box except better in every way.

Except the Blue Box is gnarly as fuck. Puts hair on your ass.

I haven't played it, but for BeepyBoopyBzzzzt Boxes, you'd be hardpressed to not at least consider the Wolf Computer.

Hell yea man, great variety. Anybody who lists all that stuff is someone I'd love to jam with.

I wouldn't get a Fuzz War. One of the only pedals I've ever gotten rid of. I couldn't find any redeeming qualities to it. Go for some type of tone bender clone. What ever you get most likely won't sound anything like your Fuzz Factory. I love my Fuzz Factory, but I always thought it came closest to a germ Fuzz Face. Of course you can get wild oscillation sounds and velcroey shit too, but I've never really been able to match any of the benders I have with it. Just my sentiments though.

Spaghetti western? Maestro FZ-1 and/or Fuzzrite

I've seen loads of good Fuzzrite clones too -- straight clones and modified.
The Ashbass looks good, sounds OK in demos, haven't played one though.

There's a guy in Canada makes a good, cheap Fuzzrite -- REDesign (ebay/youtube username supro31) -- slightly higher gain than the originals, but in a tiny box, which is cool.
I've seen a few good looking clones around here too.
Creepy Fingers Fuzz Fight is a nice Ge Fuzzrite, although again a bit higher gain than the originals.

I actually like the Fuzz War quite a bit. Sold it but wish I hadn't but would probably not buy another one since I hardly buy stuff. The tone control is like similar to the muff one but on crack. A cool fuzz, but there's so much cool shit out there, depends on what you want.

I actually think the ashbass is a really bad clone. For some biting, trace octave up shit (which neither of your fuzzes do) maybe a basic audio spooky tooth?

As a lot of folks have already suggested, Basic Audio has a lot of awesome pedals for $160. I'm a big fan of the Zippy.
Maybe partying will help.

Hey thanks everybody!

Right now, I'm kinda leaning towards "buy all the fuzz", but if that doesn't work out...

Definitely going to check out all these suggestions! I knew I could count on you guys(and gals)
