I've pretty much decided this is going to be my next guit, and am wondering what to expect.
I'm gonna slap some Curtis Novak WRHBs in it, and the tuners seem pretty suspect.
Anything else I need to know?
I mean this guy, btw-

not the American Deluxe or Nashville Deluxe or what have you...

I had a 72 custom ri and I really liked the stock HB in the neck

Also, cream pickguard would look sexy on that.

I'm told on the reissues it helps to replace the volume and tone pots to ones with a different component value or something. The ones that come stock mud up the sound of the pickups.

The tuners are actually decent...the g-string is really the only one that goes out of tune from time to time. The stock pot values are at 250k for the volume and tone. I think most people put 500k's in there. The original tele deluxes with the wr had 1M pots for tone and volume. The stock electronics are kinda meh...but the rest is top quality. I put p-90's in mine and a bigsby. Really good guitar to mod.

I threw some 500K CTS pots and Hovland Musicaps in mine, big improvement, increased clarity and gave it a more wide open sound. Sold it before replacing the pickups which is good idea too.
The neck on these guitars is one of the best I've tried from Fender. Build quality/consistency is solid as well. Not your standard Tele twang machine obviously, pretty fat sounding guitar.

yeah, I played one for a little while yesterday mainly to see if I like the neck, and I thought it was excellent.
a little bit of work and I think this one might be a favorite.

I put 500k pots in mine and it made it sound a lot better. Changed the caps, as well. Don't remember what values. Stock from the store it kinda sounded like shit. The pickup switch is shit on mine, will eventually replace that and maybe the wiring.
I thought about doing this, as well:

these are only maybe $500 used, dude.
and I had shit gear for a loooong time.
one of the benefits of being nearly middle-aged and in a career is that I get some decent gear, finally.

$450 a pop! yow! I'll stick with the Novaks at $190...good enough for Lee Ranaldo, good enough for me.
