recommend an overdrive/something else

Post by Almonds »

I want something with a lofi sound to it. I'm thinking mid-fi demo tape fuzz but I haven't seen demos that have shown me what I need to hear. Recommendations??

I think your probably on the right track with that...

Also, the fuck can sound lofi and broken. The Honeybee is supposed to sound pretty lofi if your into a more traditional OD.

I have both the Demo Tape and the Fuck. They're very different sounding but both can do different lo-Fi sounds well. The Mid-Fi is awesome for everything on at ten and let the feedback squeal JAMC Psychocandy tones and the Fuck is a great all round fantastico machine. It is supreme for "Fuck, my Fuck has just fucked my fucking amp" sounds and can also do sparkling overdrive and blistering fuzz.

Can you get sorta a big muffish/wall of fuzz with the Midfi?

I've wanted to try one of these for a while.

While not muffish, I'd say it can do wall of fuzz yeah. I really love it. One of those pedals you plug in for the first time and think "FUCK YES! FUZZ IS AWESOME!!!!" Very unique fuzz tone I think.

Arc Flash! Sounds pretty lo-fi on a lot of settings.

You might take a look at the Fairfield Circuitry Four Eyes Fuzz.
It's not a lo-fi OD but you can get lots of sound from huge fuzz to lo-fi trebely fuzz.
That's what I'm using.

Without a doubt......the Black Arts Toneworks BLACK FOREST!!!! Has a 2-band boost/cut EQ and can get as lo-fi, clean OD, cutting, grindy or fuzzy as you want. Best OD I've ever tried for sure. Totally dynamic. Definitely worth checking out the PGS demo video. Price is right too.

First things that come to my mind are Fuck and Barbershop. Barbershop because the Sag knob, Fuck because of the "crazy side". Plus Fuck seems to be one of the most universal sounding ODs ever with the gain range from almost-clean-boost to saturated almost higain slightly fuzzy drive...

Probably the favorite pedal on my board...
The three fuzz/eq knobs are amazing and with the freq knob, you can get many different sound
... from thick and fat fuzz with a touch of octave down to thin and trebely lo-fi filtery fuzz... and many more.
