So yeah, got some questions I want to ask the people who have them/have used them, mainly:
~Is it harder to use than a power glove?
~On a scale of one to Linkin Park, how shit do the built in mics sound?
~Do the guitar inputs take pedals well?
~How does it react to synths/bass?
~Will it try to murder me in my sleep?
~Can I rip files straight from usb or do I have to do some weird interfacing?
~How's the on board reverb (if it exists)
~How's the battery life?
~Is it worth the extra dollar signs for the eight track version?
~Do those knobs have a tendency to break?
~Are there any alternatives that you would suggest I look into?

ive got the 8 track. its a pretty sturdy unit, knobs wont fall off. the reverb is decent, but if you're a reverb snob, you'll fucking hate it. the mics are kinda meh, theyre fine if its just you and an acoustic or your recording a rough jam out. getting a good mic will probably make a difference if you dont dig the sound. the inputs take pedals well when going line in. pretty straight forward recording. you can bump tracks which is pretty cool.

the dumping to computer is kinda weird, it comes with a usb cable, but if you dump without finalizing the song, you get some weird file when you drag and drop. you have to set something to something and mastering or whatever, im not really sure without looking at it. its kind of a pain in the ass sometimes, but the manual should help.

i dunno about battery life, ive always used an adapter.

its a good unit, and a good buy if you can find one on the cheap.

That miiiiight just be getting into Power Glove territory. And the Power Glove was godawful.

I'm surprised that reviewer was able to press all the required keys in the proper order to write that review (rolls eyes). Plain and simple that guy bought the wrong product for what he was doing.

I've used several different multitrack recorders and of the ones I've used the dp004 is the easiest of them to use. If you want to lay down lots of tracks you probably want to get an interface or a bigger multitrack. If you want to record a basic song or do some good field recording (batteries go a long way on this, but you'll probably want to use an external microphone), if you want an audio note-book or want to record a multi-layered symphony you probably want to get something else. For a simple 4-track with no effects or eq that's portable and pretty easy to use I couldn't suggest the dp004 more.

How does the dp-004 compare to the updated dp-006? Other than the addition of two tracks. .

In a nutshell, went from 4-mono tracks (DP-004) to 2-mono/2-stereo(switchable) tracks (DP-006). On quick glance, everthing else is the same.

Yea, I don't get it, the written list is exactly what I'd expect from a digital unit.

This guy would probably complain about having to unwrap the cassette on an old 4 track.

They go for about $100 on craigslist... There is an 004 for $100, an 006 for $115 and an 008 for $200 on Austin CL right now... I had the 008 for awhile and they are easy to use...
