Saw Lightning Bolt (minus that bass) earlier this year. Hipster girls in hipster glasses were fleeing the venue as if they'd just heard Urban Outfitters was having a blowout sale like nothing this world has ever known. A sight to see and hear!

gawd i love them. got to see them in Oakland this year and it was honestly the best show i've ever been to. hipster grrLs and weird sweater doods wear slamming around all happy like with punkers and clean metalheads. not really pits, just happy bouncing off of each other, a few hundred deep.

just pure awesome.

also, that bass is nice.

Does anyone know what he tunes to? Those strings looks pretty small.

"Gibson plays his bass guitar tuned to cello standard tuning, in intervals of fifths (C G D A), using a banjo string for the high A. He used this four-string setup for several years, but has recently been seen using a five-string setup, tuned to C G D A E, with banjo strings for the A and E."

That bass has to sound so gnarly.

Maple makes for a harsh tone and I would play a 5 er if they had a neck like that.

That bass is aaaawesome. I would definitely play a 5 with a neck like that, or just with a higher string instead of a lower one.

It's fun as hell actually. I've had one of my basses like this for a little while now, and its hard to get used to at first, but melodies and new ideas pop out real quick all the time.

Hmm, time to do this to the extra bass

I concur that the lightning bolt show i went to was one of if not the best
shows ive ever been to.
