My first pedal build

So like, I know nothing about nothing.
I dug the sound of my friends clark gainster. I found a layout online.
I sourced the parts. As luck turns out theres an electrical trade wholesaler around the corner from my house that stocks tonnes of great stuff!
I drilled the box (2 actually, I drilled the power jack hole too close to a pot  ).

I copied the layout on stripboard, apeing the pritty picture from the web.
I plugged it in and to my complete enwonderment, it worked!!!

The IC is the stock one listed in the layout, tho my friends gainster has more gain and a different IC, which i have on order.
Any idea what value resistor I should use for an orange LED? the standard 4.7k makes it too dull.

I will gut it, sand it, undercoat it, paint it and post a photo.

Thanks for sharing my joy!

Excellent looking guts for a first build.
My first was pretty scary looking inside, still works though.
You could change out the 4.7 to 1K and it should be brighter but I have a feeling you may have used a 47K.
Check it out with a dmm if you have one.

Cool! Good job there.

For the led, if 4.7 is too dull, try half, so anything around 2.

Thanks guys!
It's the underside of the board thtats a total mess!
I'll check the risistor value and give 2k a go.
Cheers!

Woah! Nice work!

Are you using a clear, high brightness orange LED? Or on that's... orange when off and just lights up? Either way, 1K will be quite a bit brighter. I've found that even up to 10K can be fine for some high brightness LEDs, but I seem to remember orange not seeming as bright as others...

In any case, just lower it, and try not to drift too far below 500 ohms.

He he thanks guys. Cloth wire is all I have!
I'm just tossing up how to finish it.
I like the idea of screen printing, but it seems like a lot of equipment.
And seeing Laowiz' stuff has given me a super hard on for etching.
How much junk is envolved in that?

Meanwhile my friend has borrowed it to compare against his real one, and I've just cracked the byoc octave divider kit(which I'm gonna start a tread for...)

Cheers!

So... I've had a few setbacks trying to get the pnp blue to stick evenly. I accidently incinerated one last night. Which means even more sanding to clean it off.
Ugh

That sucks man. Maybe your iron is too hot. I always poke holes in the pnp where there is no transfer ink to allow air to escape. I usually have the iron warmed up to setting 4 (outta 6) and then carefully place the transfer and then place the iron flat on the enclosure for a a minute and keep some pressure on it. Allows the transfer to sit and adhere a bit. Then I carefully iron it will some pressure. I try to do sections at a time as to not fry out one area completely.

If your box is sanded well and flattish you can do it. I start with 100 grit, then 220, 360, 600, and then sometimes 1200, depending what I have laying around.
After the transfer has been anally ironed I let the box sit in a pan of cold water for 5 minutes or so and then peel the pnp off. Then I fix the shit areas with nail polish and then the acid. Keep trying!

Cheers! I will definitely prick airholes next time. I'll post photo's when there's something to photograph.
Thanks for the help!
