long time reader, first time poster

i play a mustang w/red lace sensor in the bridge and i'd really love to implement a tonebender into my setup. right now i'm using stonebender and it sounds quite alright but the low end is very weak, i just can't dial the sound from the pgs youtube vid (lol) out of it, it sounds more like trashy clashy spacemen 3 revolution fuzz (which i absolutely love too).

so what do you think if i swap it onto tone reaper? (or just buy the reaper and keep the stonebender too) will i get that low end using the tone knob? ps. yeah i know tone reaper is basically an mk3, and throbak is an mk2 but still...

and btw how much gain the reaper has in comparison with the stonebender and does it clean up w/the volume knob as nicely?

I listened to a friend compare the Tone Reaper with his Mark II clone.

Good news is yes, there is a shit ton of low end to be had in the tone reaper

Good/Bad news is, mark III's at least to my ears, sound very different than mark II. I found the tone reaper
to have a very spongy muff-like saturation to it, but with alot more mid content than a traditional big muff.
Overall the tone reaper sounds fuckin massive.

Are we talking reaper v1 (big box) or v2 (current red sparkle small box?)

v2 but are they different? i thought the only difference is the enclosure

maybe check out Basic Audio Scarab Deluxe. If you can't get the Bender tone you want there, I don't know what to tell you.

What kind of amp are you using?

Anywho the tone reaper can get a little more agressive with the gain, and of course there is the tone knob. It can get both more bassy and more paper thin/brittle depending where you set it.
It doesn't clean up as nicely as my Pigdog mkII(t) or my hudson stroll on, but that can be expected from a MKIII. There is still clean up but with a hint of grit (at least with my tele).
Strong punchy (but not overbearing) mid content compared to the somewhat wooly mkII.

...now this is talking about the reaper section of my hoofreaper (v2) I've also got a v1.
The v1 tone knob doesn't have the range of the v2 (it still gets bassy/paper thin but not as much), but once again that's still more than you get with your average mkII.
The v1 is a bit warmer, not quite as focused as the v2. Not as much gain.

(fwiw I hate tonal descriptors...I have no idea what those mean )

thx GR, i found a used tone reaper nearby for about a hundred bucks which sounds like a good deal to me and i'm arranging the purchase atm
based on your indeep essay the reaper won't replace the stonebender but i'm really curious about it anyway

my practice amp is a pathfinder 15 and the main one is an ac15c1 (i'm an average fender offsets/vox amps guy, shoegazers and shit)

so i've got a reaper today and found them different indeed, stonebender is much brighter and erm... more raw and vintage or something while tonereaper sounds to me more modern and tight.. both are awesome and i'm keepin' 'em both for sure

what i didn't like that much about the reaper is some sort of gated sustain, might be the bedroom volumes though and it's dead quiet when i'm not playing which is cool

Jen Jumbo's an odd beast -- that CF is a clone of my old one (that I got from Stu Castledine). it's kinda muff-ish, with serious gating.

FWIW, Stonebender's a MkII, while the tonereaper is a MkIII I think. Bit different.
