Sunn Amp Clones

Post by WeHuntKings »

Hey there, brand new here. Thought I'd start off with a pretty general question and see what people come up with.

I haven't found a whole lot on the web (maybe I'm looking in the wrong places), but does anyone make a suitable/schmancier clone of the Sunn Model T or anything else of the Sunn brand? Or anything that comes close to that massive volume and low-end response? I'm not sure if I found anything like that and I was wondering if anyone has had any first hand experience with anything like this and what their opinions are on the equipment. I am very tired of my Fender M-80 1x12 combo and want to upgrade to something that will punch everyone I play to in the guts.

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply. The Dunwich Wizard, is exaaactly what I was looking for/imagining in my head.. The built in reverb and delay is such a nice touch too.

Dunwich is the shit. Period. He's currently selling that wizard head used in the demo's hit him up on his email is dunwichamps@gmail.com his name is nick.

The weber kit clones an old sunn 100s late 60's head, not the model t.

There was also a guy selling a reissue model t in the b/s/t thread...

Unfortunately I am too broke to afford something like that at the moment...Moving is the worst! How much do you think the wizard would go for (I don't wanna bug the dude about price and back-off like a douche)?

It will be an amp I will have to purchase one of these days though. No doubt about it.

Yep, Nick's prices are outrageously fair.

He's a super cool guy, you won't be bothering him with a price/build inquiry. He's a member here as well, new05002...

I imagine shipping would be hilarious, but totally worth it in the end. You think if I just stop eating three meals a day I could probably save up in a month? Hah.

I'm thinking it's about $100 depending on location plus insurance and all that...

Depends what you're eating. May have to starve a little longer, not too terribly long though. :thumb:

Massive volume & low end response?

Get an SVT-CL. Shouldn't run you more than 800-900 bucks.

I think that's going to be my default response to any new Doom rig threads. SVT, a pair of 8 ohm 4x12's, and a lifetime's supply of ear plugs.
good deals are here.
flesh couch is here.

A model T clone could be built or a Sunn 200s. I already built a 200s type amp, clean version for bass. Could easily do something like this with 4 x 6550s or 4 x KT88s

That is more than reasonable. Wow. Well, expect a customer sometime next year!

Its a touch cheaper since its a prototype. The normal version with all of the extras on it would run closer to 1600. Of course if you removed the plexi, and FX it would be back down to 1300-1400
