I think it's not so much that there's a problem with the first one as comparing it to the second is just unfair.

you, sir, have managed to capture five of my extreme dislikes in one picture:
PRS, Santana, Bowler hats, hawaiian shirts and that fucking face everyone makes when they bend a note in a bluesy solo.

Santana used to fucking rule in the 60's, but yeah he's sucked for a long time now. In regard to his prior awesomeness, I present exhibit A before the court:

Note: Like Clapton and Townshend he played a sweet SG in the sixties before switching to something much more generic. Also, as you watch the video, pay attention to how much Carlos Santana is adjusting the guitar knobs. Practically between every phrase he's trying to find the right sound. You gotta believe that guy knows teh tonez and how maliable they are. Not to mention he was a fuzz pioneer. He seems so totally in control, yet in interviews he has admitted he was tripping so hard on peyote at the time he wasn't sure if he was holding a guitar or a giant, wriggling snake.
Dude may do Macy's ads and work with Rob Thomas and Michelle Branch(although the producer of that song, Gregg Alexander had an awesome band at one point) now, but he deserves are respect for what he has done.
